Political biography of William Henry Seward (1801-1872), who served in the state senate and then as governor of the state of New York for four years. He later was senator to Washington for twelve years, and served as Secretary of State under President Abraham Lincoln and later under President Andrew Johnson. He is possibly most famous for negotiating the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.
