Rock Around the Bloc presents an in-depth history of rock music in communist Europe from the mid-1950s to the present, touching on such highlights as the Elvis craze in the late 1950s, Beatlemania in the 1960s and 1970s, and punk and heavy metal music of the 1980s. The reader comes to realize that in some ways, life in the Soviet bloc was surprisingly similar to life in the West. This report sets out an analytical method for examining the costs and benefits of JFM arrangements. Two pilot case studies in which the method was used demonstrate interesting outcomes regarding incentives for various groups to participate. The main objective of this study is to develop a better understanding of the incentives for communities to participate in JFM.
