DOWNLOAD EBOOKA modern retelling of Hamlet, except with a few twists. It's seventies Vegas. Amid the glitz, neon lights, poker players, and flood of cash, Jack Romano, a well-respected self-made casino owner and patriarch, has died. His only son, Nick, arrives home for the funeral and discovers that the death may not have been so accidental. Now he must decide what to do about Claudio, an ambitious, seasoned mobster who is also his dad's so-called business partner. Complications arise as Nick finds himself falling in love with Rosalie, the daughter of one of Claudio's crew. Nick must not only save his family's casino business, but also his dad's hoard of silver, amassed over decades, and stashed in the casino's basement vaults. "The only thing missing are the cement shoes. Malanaphy's tumultuous and thrilling ride through the wise-guy back rooms of not-so-old Las Vegas is a sometimes funny, sometimes not, but always captivating whodunnit that'll keep you turning the pages. The Prince of Las Vegas has it all: Romance, mystery and a fresh take on a Cosa Nostra-esque underworld where behind every poker table there's a mobster looking to grab the great, late Jack Romano's loot. If you can't read this well-honed mobster thriller without cheering on the good guys and boo-hissing the bad ones, well ... fuhgeddaboudit!" - Andy Scontras, author of When You Are Strange "A well written, nostalgic and fun, Vegas crime thriller. Malanaphy's novel does not disappoint!" - Gary Braver, author of Tunnel Vision "Would make a great Scorsese or Tarantino movie." - Douglas Corleone, author of Good As Gone.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAs minimal access approaches to cancer diagnosis, staging, and therapy become more widely used, it is vital for general surgeons, along with laparoscopists, surgical oncologists and medical oncologists, to stay up to date. The editors, a team consisting of a renowned surgical oncologist and a laparoscopic specialist, aim to provide a resource for the practicing general surgeon using basic minimally invasive techniques. The book discusses diagnosis including biopsy with microinstrumentation, staging, and palliative and curative resection. Specific tumor sites are addressed, including esophagus, stomach, spleen, small bowel, pancreato-biliary, hepatic resection, and colo-rectal resection. Minimally invasive approaches to the thoracic and retroperitoneal areas are included. The book provides a thorough overview of basic cancer biology, instrumentation, and ultrasound. Additionally, Greene and Heniford explore controversial issues such as port-site recurrence and the effect of pneumoperitoneum on the spread of cancer cells in the abdomen. Many photographs and line drawings, including 16 in full color, illustrate the principles discussed in the text. A must-have for every practicing general surgeon, laparoscopic fellow, and general surgery resident.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAdhesions can cause a wide range of problems, complaints and hazards, even after simple abdominal procedures, such as appendectomy, with complications ranging from recurrent discomfort and pain to intestinal obstruction. Postsurgical adhesions increase the risk of following operations of the abdominal and thoracic cavity. They impair peritoneal dialysis and chemotherapy and play a crucial part in laparoscopic procedures. Adhesion-related problems account for a large amount of clinical work and have a significant socioeconomic impact. This book presents the current knowledge on the aetiopathogenesis of adhesion formation as well as the available methods for their prevention and control. Experts in the field contribute to clinical standards for preventive measures to control the formation of postoperative adhesions

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn the 21st century, academic medical centers across the United States continue to make scientific breakthroughs, to make improvements in patient care, and to p- vide the most advanced information and guidance in matters affecting public health. The signs of growth are everywhere—in new research buildings, new pa- nerships with industry, new forms of molecular medicine, and new sensitivity to the role of the human spirit in healing. This growth is due in large part to the dedication and productivity of our faculty, who are providing more patient care, more research, more teaching, and more community service than ever before. Today, there are roughly 135,000 physicians, scientists, and other faculty wo- ing at approximately 125 academic medical centers around the country. Increasingly, they are asked to do more with less. Since the 1990s, academic medical centers in the United States have lost the financial margin they once enjoyed, thereby putting new pressures on research, education, and clinical care. Medical school faculty, previously given funded time for teaching and research, are increasingly drafted to bring in clinical revenues to cover their salaries. Dedicated to the missions of research, teaching, and care, our faculty have responded well to these challenges and perform at a very high level. However, we are beginning to see the results of ongoing stress.
