DOWNLOAD EBOOKGender equality has been one of the defining projects of European welfarestates. It has proven an elusive goal, not just because of political opposition but also due to a lack of clarity in how to best frame equality and take account of family-related considerations. This wide-ranging book assembles the most pertinent literature and evidence to provide a critical understanding of how contemporary state policies engage with gender inequalities.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"Violence against women undermines women's core fundamental rights such as dignity, access to justice and gender equality. For example, one in three women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence since the age of 15; one in five women has experienced stalking; every second woman has been confronted with one or more forms of sexual harassment. What emerges is a picture of extensive abuse that affects many women's lives but is systematically underreported to the authorities. The scale of violence against women is therefore not reflected by official data. This FRA survey is the first of its kind on violence against women across the 28 Member States of the European Union (EU). It is based on interviews with 42,000 women across the EU, who were asked about their experiences of physical, sexual and psychological violence, including incidents of intimate partner violence ('domestic violence'). The survey also included questions on stalking, sexual harassment, and the role played by new technologies in women's experiences of abuse. In addition, it asked about their experiences of violence in childhood. Based on the detailed findings, FRA suggests courses of action in different areas that are touched by violence against women and go beyond the narrow confines of criminal law, ranging from employment and health to the medium of new technologies."--Editor.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKOver the last decades, the activity rate of women has strongly increases throughout Europe and has been one of the major changes affecting our societies in general and the workplace in particular. Many reasons explain this increase, such as the recognition of their high level of education, the wish for autonomy and social recognition, the necessity of a double income. But while more women work (in some coutries the activity rates for men and women are identical), they still face problems in the workplace to get the same status as men (the "glass ceiling"), and they are still overwhelmingly responsible for family and domestic duties. In 1991 and 1996 the Foundation carried out statistical surveys on working conditions in all Member States. The Second European Survey on Working Conditions (1996) was designed with gender specific issues in mind. The present document reports on its finding with regard to gender differences in the workplace and discusses them in the light of the ongoing debate on equal opportunities. With this report the Foundation hopes to provide policy makers with a better understanding of the problemes to overcome in order to promote gender sensitive workplaces Editor

DOWNLOAD EBOOKSince the ILO's founding in 1919, gender equality and non-discrimination have been pillars of its mission to promote social justice through the world of work. As the Organization approaches its second century, it has chosen to focus on women at work as one of its centenary initiatives. Women at Work: Trends 2016 is a key contribution to these efforts and seeks to further the central goals of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. The report provides a picture of where women stand today in the world of work and how they have progressed over the past 20 years. It examines the global and regional labour market trend and gaps, including in labour force participation rates, employment-to-population rates and unemployment rates, as well as differences in the type and status in employment, hours spent in paid and unpaid work, sectoral segregation and gender gaps in wages and social protection. It also presents an in-depth analysis of the gender gaps in the quality of work and explores the key policy drivers for gender transformative change. The discussions and related recommendations focus on three main dimensions: sectoral and occupational segregation, the gender wage gap, and gaps in the policy framework for work and family integration.
