The third disk contains concave glasses Nos. 30, 24, 16, 12, 7, 5, 2; and it is believed that this collection of glasses will be found sufficient to determine the greater num ber of refraction anomalies. The disk rotates behind the opening in the diaphragm, and by means of the spring-catch each glass as it rotates is caused to stop exactly behind the centre of the Opening, and at the same time the arrangement allows of the disk being quickly removed and another substituted - on the same principle as Dr. E. G. Loring, of New York, has made use of in the con struction of his ophthalmoscope, and from whom the idea was derived. The entire apparatus is contained in a box 4% inches long and 1% inch wide.
