Excerpt from Georgia Game and Fish, 1955, Vol. 4: Fishing Edition We can't give accurate figures on egg production because a big female lays far more eggs than a small female of the same species. However, in general, a trout may lay eggs, a bass a bluegill a wall eye and a big carp might lay a million. Under suitable conditions, a big percentage of these eggs hatch. One study on a 14-acre lake showed that the number of fry produced natural ly by four species (largemouth bass, bluegill, common sunfish, rock bass) was slightly over per acre. The water would support only a few hun dred adult fish per acre. We have had instances where the limited brood stock present in the original river was more than adequate to provide all the young fish needed to stock big impoundments. Excerpt from Georgia Game and Fish, 1958, Vol. 7 Jessie Holey of Canton shows off limit catch of trout taken from Wildcat Creek.patience and hard fishing only a wily trout de mands. Last year, trout ranging in size from nine to thirty-two inches, were released in cold water streams. Of that number, anglers recovered a record percent, and each of them caught an average of daily. Records show that seventy-two percent of anglers were successful in catching at least one trout. What do all these figures mean? Simply that without the assistance given by state and federal agencies, Georgia's trout streams would fold under the terrific pressure that is being applied by fish ermen. Large, healthy trout would soon be the exception, rather than the rule. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
