He noted Hemphill's suggestion of the equivalence of the beds in the well from which the fossils were obtained, to the fossiliferous beds at Pacific Beach several miles to the northwest. Dall again gave the age as Pliocene. In 1886 a note in the West American Scientist, presumably by its editor, C. R. Orcutt, stated.
