Adams hopes that this collection of poetry will inspire thought instead of conformity and unity rather than uniformity. He writes to open the blind eyes and ears of the masses who are unaware or indifferent to the oppression of the world.
George Orwell set out ‘to make political writing into an art’, and to a wide extent this aim shaped the future of English literature – his descriptions of authoritarian regimes helped to form a new vocabulary that is fundamental to understanding totalitarianism. While 1984 and Animal Farm are amongst the most popular classic novels in the English language, this new series of Orwell’s essays seeks to bring a wider selection of his writing on politics and literature to a new readership. In Why I Write, the first in the Orwell’s Essays series, Orwell describes his journey to becoming a writer, and his movement from writing poems to short stories to the essays, fiction and non-fiction we remember him for. He also discusses what he sees as the ‘four great motives for writing’ – ‘sheer egoism’, ‘aesthetic enthusiasm’, ‘historical impulse’ and ‘political purpose’ – and considers the importance of keeping these in balance. Why I Write is a unique opportunity to look into Orwell’s mind, and it grants the reader an entirely different vantage point from which to consider the rest of the great writer’s oeuvre. My book is a collection of poems and lyrics that I started writing about 30 years ago and finally decided to put on something more permanent. I like to write about the inequalities that seems to permeate throughout our country, from the racial ignorance and bigotry or the fact that the people that are supposed to represent us seem to never have our collective interest at heart. We never challenge the things we know to be true or false anymore. LIES THAT DAMAGE OUR COUNTRY SHOULD NEVER BE TOLERATED NOR REPEATED. WE NEED TO DEMAND HONESTY AND ACCOUNTABILITY FROM ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS. I WRITE WHAT I FEEL AND WHAT I SEE AS AN ASSAULT ON ALL OF US, AND ON OUR DEMOCRACY.

Experiencing the Truth communicates the need of a vibrant, experiential, Reformed Christianity among African-Americans and all believers. How does a believer choose a church to attend? Sadly too many Christians search for churches that serve them and meet their perceived needs. Instead they should prefer places where God is exalted and biblical truth and Christian doctrine are proclaimed. Such churches are essential if Christians are to understand what God is doing and what he calls His people to be. Experiencing the Truth presents these truths not simply to African-American churches, but also to the whole church today. Anthony Carter, Michael Leach, and Ken Jones clearly present the need for a vibrant, experiential, Reformed Christianity among African-Americans. These authors lay out the biblical basis for choosing and attending a church, and they demonstrate how the historic Reformed expression has been the most biblically accurate and experientially consistent expression of Christianity.
