DOWNLOAD EBOOK"The book Introduction to Fish Farming in Nigeria is a practical guide to fish farming not only in Nigeria but in the tropics. It presents the various steps for successful fish farming in order to encourage entrepreneurship in aquaculture. It is very relevant to practising fish farmers who want to improve their production and maximize profit. It can also serve as a reference material for fisheries students and professional fisheries experts."--Back cover.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKA major new independent scientific assessment, carried out by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), shows that pollution from over 50 years of oil operations in the region has penetrated further and deeper than many may have supposed. The assessment has been unprecedented. Over a 14-month period, the UNEP team examined more than 200 locations, surveyed 122 kilometres of pipeline rights of way, reviewed more than 5,000 medical records and engaged over 23,000 people at local community meetings. The environmental restoration of Ogoniland could prove to be the world's most wide-ranging and long term oil clean-up exercise ever undertaken if contaminated drinking water, land, creeks and important ecosystems such as mangroves are to be brought back to full, productive health. The report key findings are alarming both in terms of human health protection and environmental protection: some areas, which appear unaffected at the surface, are in reality severely contaminated underground; at least 10 Ogoni communities where drinking contaminated water; control and maintenance of oilfield infrastructure in Ogoniland has been and remains inadequate; the impact of oil on mangrove vegetation has been disastrous. The report recommends direct actions in order to address the Niger Delta contamination by oil and warns that the restoration of the area could take up years.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn recent years the subject of pollution of natural waters by aquaculture has received considerable attention. With increasingly stringent regulation of wastewater quality from fish farms around the world, those involved in the industry need to be aware of the causes of pollution from fish and shellfish farms and of methods by which this pollution may be prevented. This book aims to bring the principles of wastewater treatment and other pollution control techniques for fish and shellfish farming to a wide audience of farmers, students, scientists and engineers; in fact anyone who works in aquaculture or pollution control. For this reason, the authors who have between them much experience in this area have written this important book with both the specialist and those new to the area in mind. As part of the growing Aquaculture Series, this title gives a comprehensive insight into this topic of vital importance to the aquaculture industry. This book should be on the shelves of all those involved in fish and shellfish farming and connected environmental issues, and available in universities and research establishments for students and professionals alike.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe intake of food by fishes is an area of study that is of great importance to the applied sciences of fisheries and aquaculture for a number of reasons. For example a thorough knowledge of factors influencing the ingestion of feed can lead to successful manipulation of the rearing environment of cultured fishes, thereby ensuring improved growth performance and feed utilisation, and decreasing the amount of waste (and consequent pollution) per unit of fish produced. This important book, which has arisen out of a European Union COST programme, illustrates how insights into the biological and environmental factors that underlie the feeding responses of fish may be used to address practical issues of feed management. Food Intake in Fish contains carefully edited contributions from internationally recognised scientists, providing a book that is an invaluable tool and reference to all those involved in aquaculture, especially those working in the aquaculture feed industry and scientific personnel in commercial and research aquaculture facilities. This book should also find a place on the shelves of fish biologists and physiologists and as a reference in libraries of universities, research establishments and aquaculture equipment companies.
