The general call that lexicography should address the potential needs of the dictionary users is amply reflected at least in the pedagogical dictionaries currently available in the market. But these dictionaries claim to be global in their response to this call. As a matter of fact, learners' dictionaries are supposed to be compiled taking into consideration the language needs and problems of specific L1 users. The need for constructing a lexicographical theory with a particular focus on specialised dictionaries for learners is well documented in recent publications.
