DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Book of Proverbs is the key book in the Bible that teaches us wisdom; "the single, most important thing in life we could ever achieve". If we not only read the book, but put the advice to work in our lives, we can truly become wise. Frank realized that most people have a difficult time interpretting the Bible and never get the full understanding of what the passages are trying to get across to us. "If we don't fully understand what we are reading, how can we apply the advice to our lives?", was his question. With this in mind, he took three different Bible interpretations of the Book of Proverbs, studied each passage and rewrote them in "plain English", without changing the meanings of the passages, so all could get the full understanding. In this book you will find the simplest format, easiest wording, a daily calendar guide, word index and explanations for hard to understand passages. You will have such ease reading and actually comprehending what you are reading, that you will be amazed the simplicity to interpret. Although the Book of Proverbs was written nearly 3,000 years ago, you will find how relevant these words of wisdom are in our lives today. Prov 1:2--"The purpose of these Proverbs is to teach wisdom, give instruction and perceive words of understanding."

DOWNLOAD EBOOKTO the general reader, the book of Proverbs, with its common-sense epigrams and sententious aphorisms, might seem to be the last portion of Scripture requiring any attempt at elucidation. But it is just because its chapters abound in pithy truisms that the marrow is often lost sight of by those who have been accustomed to hearing or reading them all their lives. The present work is an attempt to press home upon the heart and conscience, with a view to the increase of every-day godliness, this distinctively practical portion of the word of God. The "Authorized" Version is used in the text, save where a uniform rendering of certain words seemed conducive to clearness, and where some other translation better expressed the thought of the original. Wherever changes have been made, the reader may rest assured competent authorities have been consulted, the marginal readings of the Englishman's Hebrew Bible being generally preferred. The poetical arrangement has been used, as more capable of clearly manifesting the contrasts, as well as the parallelisms, so abundant in this great storehouse of practical instruction. Throughout, an effort has been made to bring to the reader's attention some Scriptural examples of the proverbial statements. This feature of the work will, it is sincerely hoped, be a means of stimulating the reader to more careful, earnest Bible study. H. A. IRONSIDE. August 1, 1907.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe book of Proverbs is the starting point of the biblical wisdom tradition. But how did individual proverbs, instructions and poems come together to form the various collections we have today? Katharine Dell explores the possible social contexts for this varied material in the royal court, wisdom schools and popular culture. She draws shrewdly on materials from the wisdom traditions of the ancient Near East, in particular Egypt, in order to bolster and enhance her theories. She argues that Proverbs had a theological purpose from its conception, with God's creativity being an integral theme of the text rather than one added in later redactions. Dell also shows that echoes of other Old Testament genres such as prophecy, law and cult can be found in Proverbs, notably in chapters 1-9, and that its social and theological context is much broader than scholars have recognised in the past.
