As Sade and Baz keep trying to figure out what’s going on, Sade realizes there’s more to Alfred Nobel Academy and its students than she thought. Secrets lurk around every corner and beneath every surface...Secrets that rival even her own.

Most Canadians are city dwellers, a fact often unacknowledged by twentieth-century Canadian films, with their preference for themes of wilderness survival or rural life. Modernist Canadian films tend to support what film scholar Jim Leach calls “the nationalist-realist project,” a documentary style that emphasizes the exoticism and mythos of the land. Over the past several decades, however, the hegemony of Anglo-centrism has been challenged by francophone and First Nations perspectives and the character of cities altered by a continued influx of immigrants and the development of cities as economic and technological centers. No longer primarily defined through the lens of rural nostalgia, Canadian urban identity is instead polyphonic, diverse, constructed through multiple discourses and mediums, an exchange rather than a strict orientation. Taking on the urban as setting and subject, filmmakers are ideally poised to create and reflect multiple versions of a single city. Examining fourteen Canadian films produced from 1989 to 2007, including Denys Arcand’s Jésus de Montréal (1989), Jean-Claude Lauzon’s Léolo (1992), Mina Shum’s Double Happiness (1994), Clément Virgo’s Rude (1995), and Guy Maddin’s My Winnipeg (2007), Film and the City is the first comprehensive study of Canadian film and “urbanity”—the totality of urban culture and life. Drawing on film and urban studies and building upon issues of identity formation in Canadian studies, Melnyk considers how filmmakers, films, and urban audiences experience, represent, and interpret urban spatiality, visuality, and orality. In this way, Film and the City argues that Canadian narrative film of the postmodern period has aided in articulating a new national identity.

The fourth book in the charming and sensual School for Heiresses series by New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries tells the story of an alluringly handsome rake who challenges everything a young teacher thinks she knows about passion and desire. When Madeline Prescott took a teaching position at Mrs. Harris’s School for Young Ladies, it was to help restore her father’s reputation. Instead, she’s in danger of ruining her own. The devilishly handsome Anthony Dalton, Viscount Norcourt, has agreed to provide “rake lessons” to Mrs. Harris’s pupils so that they can learn how to avoid unscrupulous gentlemen, and Madeline is to oversee his classes. She has always believed that attraction is a scientific matter, easily classified and controlled—until she’s swept into the passionate desire that fiercely burns between her and Anthony. Nothing could be more illogical than risking everything for a dalliance with a rake, even one who’s trying to behave himself. Yet nothing could be more tempting…

Everyone knows the story of Swan Lake, right? Evil curse. Handsome prince. Start to finish in twenty-four hours. Everyone lives happily ever after? Not for the Black Swan’s descendants, cursed unfairly. The ballet storytellers skip this part from their fairy-tale, but Swan Lake 2, the sequel, reveals all! These swans have one chance a month to locate a cure before they die on their twelfth birthday. It’s hardly surprising that eleven-year-old twins Penny and Cobain Atratus surrender the best roles in their ballet school’s summer performance of Swan Lake. They hate Odette, the Swan Princess, and expect to be dead before curtains up, unless their new friends can help. Rosie Maudly has her own problems. Half-and-half, she’s blessed with her mum’s dancing genes and cursed with her dad’s stage fright. The genes are double-edged too, edging her WEBS scholarship but threatening her dreams. Moon has different dilemmas, hardly anyone will understand, and telling you now will spoil the story, but … I trust you with a secret. Rio Grande would rather be at another school. Don’t get me wrong. He loves ballet and is the best in his year, and has already performed in a West End Christmas production of Coppélia. The trouble is he loves sport even more and keeping him at WEBS full-time is going to be, well, a full-time task. Last and dare you say least? Kirsty Qickers. Where to start with her? How about the first page which is included in the free sample? Can you imagine someone like Kirsty ever helping anyone, let alone the twins?
