Ce travail se propose de mettre en valeur la complexité réelle de la société marocaine à travers la réalité des femmes d'aujourd'hui, où l'innovation se bat contre la tradition pour produire ce que l'auteur appelle "un métissage culturel".
Dans le premier volume, les articles montrent une image de la féminité prise dans le contexte des valeurs locales et de la tradition. Le deuxième englobe les contributions qui interrogent le statut de la femme dans le discours historique, juridique et politique au Maghreb.
This book offers a comparison of two Muslim populations that to date have not been compared in this way. The personal views of young, educated women in Morocco are compared with those of young, educated women of Moroccan immigrant origins in France.
Providing new information on women's participation in the Moroccan independence movement, Voices of Resistance offers a rare opportunity to hear Moroccan women speak freely about their personal lives. Each woman is introduced in terms of her family background and personal style, and the interviews are given texture and context by references to Moroccan history and popular culture, including contemporary songs and poems. These women are storytellers, and they lived through stirring times. Their active struggle against French colonialism also challenged and redefined traditional Moroccan ideas about women's roles in society. The narratives reconstruct the little-known history of Moroccan feminism and nationalism, and probe the lives of a remarkable group of Islamic women whose voices have never been heard until now.
Are women in North Africa and the Middle East 'feminist'? Or is being a Muslim incompatible with feminism? Is there such a thing as 'Islamic feminism'? Through interviews with Moroccan activists and jurists - both male and female - and by situating these interviews within their socio-political and economic contexts, Doris Gray addresses these questions. By doing so, she attempts to move beyond the simple bifurcation of 'feminist' and 'Islamist' to look at the many facets of internal gender discourse within one Muslim country, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of the discussion on women's rights in the Muslim world in general. By marking out a 'third way' that looks beyond 'feminism' and 'Islamism', Gray presents religion and faith not as blocking gender equality but as a source of inspiration to explore new ways of conceiving modernity. While Western models are taken into consideration, within Morocco the men and women involved in this 'third way' of understanding gender and equality inevitably negotiate internal tensions between what has been dubbed 'tradition' and 'modernity', thus incorporating national and cultural identity, post-colonialism and religious principles into their gender discourse. Examining issues such as gender equality, gender justice, abortion and gay rights, Gray explores the nexus of gender, religion and democracy in modern Morocco, and the ways in which different groups understand these ideas. Many of the world's pressing twenty-first century problems are embodied within Morocco's borders:tensions between the West and the Muslim world, minority rights, migration, the role of religion in a modern society and the issue this book is chiefly concerned with - women's rights. The status and the role of women is one of the most hotly debated topics throughout the Middle East and North Africa, and this is particularly visible through this discussion of what it means to engage with and promote feminist thought and actions in the region.
Depuis que le gouvernement marocain a pris l'initiative de proposer un plan d'intégration des femmes au développement, une grande effervescence d'idées sur la question des femmes agite la société marocaine. L'introduction de l'analyse genre dans ses relations avec le politique éclaire sur les difficultés d'émergence du féminisme d'Etat au Maroc. Elle met l'accent sur les distorsions vécues par les femmes entre deux droits, public et privé qui se contredisent et réduisent leur participation politique.
Ce travail a pour objectif l'étude des évolutions sociales dans une société en mutation, la société marocaine, qui est en train de vivre un mouvement de modernisation sans précédent et une série de mutations sociologiques de première importance, particulièrement concernant la redéfinition de la place des femmes dans la société. Il analyse l'appropriation des espaces privé/public par les femmes et l'impact de la modernité sur ces appropriations dans une ville importante du monde arabe, ici Rabat, cité emblématique de la modernité, ville des pouvoirs, ville moderne ouverte sur l'Occident. La recherche de terrain a montré comment les différentes catégories de femmes mettent semblablement ou différemment en oeuvre leur mode de vie et d'habiter dans l'espace public et dans l'espace domestique.

L'analyse de la thèse repose sur une enquête de terrain montrant comment l’altermondialisme marocain se constitue à partir de débats, d’échanges, de solidarités et de mobilisations d’acteurs sociaux tant au niveau local que global. Dans le cadre de l’altermondialisme international, ce mouvement a émergé pour contrer une certaine mondialisation qui réduit l’être humain à une marchandise. Bien qu’il soit influencé par l’altermondialisme mondial, du fait même de son approbation de la charte des principes de Porto Alegre, son origine se situe dans l’ancrage historique du militantisme des acteurs sociaux l’ayant impulsé. Initié à ses débuts par des ONG de développement, ce mouvement rassemble une diversité d’acteurs sociaux (organisations associatives et syndicales, mouvements sociaux...), d’objectifs variés et de relations sociales multiformes convergeant vers l’altermondialisme qui se mobilisent dans les forums sociaux. Ces derniers constituent un espace de production, de reproduction et d’appropriation de l’espace public. La diversité des acteurs, des objectifs et des relations constituant l’altermondialisme nous amène à définir son identité comme étant plurielle et fluide. Par une approche sociologique qui se base sur l’analyse de ces acteurs à travers leurs rapports sociaux, l’étude a cherché à comprendre et à analyser les particularités de l’altermondialisme marocain. Cette approche permet de déterminer les formes de solidarités, les enjeux des altermondialistes, les adversaires et les alternatives proposées. Elle a, à travers l’analyse, mis aussi en exergue la lutte des acteurs altermondialistes, les méthodes de la contestation, le renouveau de l’action collective au Maroc et l’évolution dans le répertoire d’actions.
