My book of verses is a collection of poems I have written throughout the years. Some are inspired by events in my life. Others are purely figments of my imagination. I write about people I have encountered, news event. the way I see the world and the things around me, anything and everything that inspires me. I try not to offend anyone by making blanket statements or speaking in absolutes. The way I see the world is strictly from my point of view and not intended to be construed as factual. I might appear to be preaching from a soap box, at times. I hope not but we all see the world in different ways. I write about the way I see it. My poems are intended for anyone that can open a book. I attempt to add a bit of humor, a little drama, a lot of love, a touch of evil. In essence I have mixed a variety of ingredients together to make it interesting. The purpose of my poetry is to, hopefully, take the reader away from reality for a while. Its intended to relax the mind for a spell I believe that is the purpose of a book. It is like a fountain of knowledge where the thirsty mind can be quenched. It can be a companion for the lonely at heart, an oasis in the midst of reality where one can escape for a while. Poetry is my passion. Its my escape from reality, my high, so to speak. a tranquilizer to combat lifes stressful moments.
Cassie Clarke thought her life was perfect. She had a successful career in her family’s San Francisco art gallery, and a boyfriend that any girl would swoon over. But with one tantalizing smile, Chavela Castillo throws Cassie’s life into complete chaos. It’s more than the fact that Chavela is sexy, poised and confident, or that her smile sets Cassie's blood on fire from across the room. She has a depth of being that Cassie has never encountered before; a depth that invites Cassie to look at everything in her life, including herself, with new eyes. Cassie begins to see how paper-thin her life actually is, and she discovers that she doesn’t just want more of Chavela; she wants more of herself. Soon, Cassie finds herself swept up in a whirlwind of passion, leading her down dark corridors and moonlit streets, and into the sacred depths of her own soul. Cassie senses the danger, lurking just out of sight, threatening to swallow her whole if she veers too far from the light. But she doesn’t care. As the darkness looms ever larger, she plunges ahead, unwilling to let go of the burning passion that threatens to consume her. Unwilling to turn away from her heart, even if it means embracing the terrifying truth of who, or rather what, Chavela really is.
Visual novels (VNs), a ludic video game genre that pairs textual fiction stories with anime-like images and varying degrees of interactivity, have increased in popularity among Western audiences in recent years. Despite originating in Japan, these stories have made their way into global culture as a genre accessible for both play and creation with wide-ranging themes from horror and loneliness to sexuality. The History and Allure of Interactive Visual Novels begins with a comprehensive overview of the visual novel genre and the cultural evolution that led to its rise, then explains the tropes and appeal of subgenres like bishojo (cute girl games), detective games, horror, and eroge (erotic games). Finally, the book explores the future of the genre in both user-generated games and games from other genres that liberally borrow both narrative and ludological themes from visual novels. Whether you're a long-standing fan of the genre or a newcomer looking for a fresh experience, The History and Allure of Interactive Visual Novels will provide an accessible and critically engaging overview of a genre that is rich in storytelling yet often overlooked.
"July 24, 2008, my wife and I sat in Dr. Doug Flora's office. The doctor entered the room, turned, and looked at us and said, 'I know folks, this really sucks! You have esophageal cancer. It is what is called a clinical T3N1 tumor. It's extremely serious.' He then went into a detailed explanation of Dr. Saeed's findings. He sketched a picture of my esophagus and stomach on a white sheet of paper that covered the examining table and pointed at the base of my stomach and esophagus and drew a circle where the tumor had been detected. He said that the tumor's size was 2.0 mm. I told him that I had been taking long walks to get a suntan and to lose weight and had been proud to lose seventeen pounds. He said, 'The cancer took your seventeen pounds-it wasn't the walking.' Join author Paul D.
