The Lithuanian double consonants namely sz sound is in English sh; 02 as in English oh; i, sound everywhere as in Eng lish e, in the word he. Between 1 and y in Lith nanian there is no difference except that the lat ter is a long vowel, and the former is a short vo wel. Dipthongs also never change their sound an sounds as in English on in the word our; ai as in English i in the word five or in the English y in the word my, thy. Ei sonnds as the English ey in word they; the vowel e, in Lithuanian sou nds in every word as in English, in the word Ma ry, except that there is a difference as it may be either long or short.
