Excerpt from Secretary's First Report: Harvard College Class of 1915 The following report presents a detailed account of what the class did during its four years at College. The chief value of a report such as this is that it forms the basis upon which all other records pertaining to the class must hang. It will be the source from which all comparisons will be drawn, both of the class with other classes and of the individual members of the class with other Harvard men. In addition, it will be a convenient starting point, a future reference to which will show the increased solidarity and spirit of the class, and a proof of its prophecy of success to all the members of 1915. It is hoped that these facts and figures will be an ever-ready guide which will lead the reader back to days, stirring and thrilling to some, quietly satisfying to others; but, to all, .days which will be recalled with certain pleasure and sure satis faction. Much credit is due Mr. Adolphus Terry for his Job like patience and zeal in collecting the data herein presented. May I express my grateful appreciation to the members of the class for their prompt and careful replies to my requests for information, and my trust that in the future I shall meet with the same consideration. Excerpt from Secretary's First Report, April, 1915: Harvard College, Class of 1914 Your Treasurer begs to submit the following report of all the receipts and expenditures of the Class Treasury from January lst, 1914, to January lst, 1915. The bank balance on January lst, 1914, has been materially increased by the pledges of members, although it is surprising what a small percentage of the class, only 65 per cent., have contributed. Another effort will be made very soon to persuade the other 35 per cent. To join in the fund and it is hoped they will cooperate quickly and generously. The amount of' money pledged for this year, still unpaid, is comparatively small, but its prompt payment would be of great assistance to the class. The expenditures of the class for the past year were rather heavy, due to the fact that the entertainments which were given during last spring were expensive and, in no case except the picnic, did they pay for themselves. The Class Day Committee was particularly successful in the management of the festivities last June and has already paid to the treasury, with the promise of another substantial sum in the near future. The Photograph Committee, which did so well with the Class Album, has repaid a good proportion of the sum lent them by the class, but their debt can be still further reduced if those who have not bought albums, would secure them from Richard D. Walker, Alpine Street, Malden, Mass, by send ing him a cheque for plus the cost of mailing. Weight of album is five pounds. Upon the advice of a number of graduates who are close ly in touch with the financial situation this year, your treasurer has deposited what money was available for invest ment in the Massachusetts Trust Company for the present, rather than follow the precedent of many previous classes who have purchased bonds and other securities. Excerpt from Harvard College, Class of 1900: Secretary's Fourth Report, June, 1915 With this Fourth Report I send my greetings to all the members of the Class and thank them for the time and trouble they have spent in helping me make up the volume. It is no easy or pleasant task, I realize, for a busy man to sit down and exhume dates and the exact details of his doings since we left college. The fact that such a large proportion of the Class have sent me the desired information is one in which we may all find reason for satisfaction. On examining the records in this report it is apparent that all over the country the members of the Class coming to the front in all professions and occupations. This is inter esting, but not surprising, for even when we were graduated it was evident that many of our men would win fame. The principal deduction to be drawn from the autobiographies as a whole is that our men have the happy faculty of getting results. Excerpt from Secretary's First Report: Harvard College, Class of 1906 I submit to you, rather later than I had hoped, our first Class Report. This contains the history of our class while in college, statistics made up from the class lives, and other matter related to our undergraduate life at Harvard. In addition, the report contains a list of the present addresses and occupations of our classmates so far as they are known to the Secretary. The exact form of the report, which might perhaps have been improved by laying more stress on some parts and loss on others, is due to the fact that a Class Report is merely one of a long series of reports from all the Classes. Consequently it seems best to follow the precedent of previous reports in order that the statistical data may be uniform. The value of the reports, however, depends on their completeness. This can be attained only through the co-operation of all the members of the class in responding to the letters of the Secretary and in taking the initiative in volunteering facts about themselves. Excerpt from Secretary's First Report: Harvard College, Class of 1911 To the Members of the Class of 1911: This First Class Report, traces, as accurately and carefully as possible, the various movements of our Class, - athletic, social and academic, - during its four years in College. The opportunity has now come for those curious men who wanted to know the value of the "Class Lives," to appease their thirst for knowledge by poring over the tables of statistics herein contained. You may discover that you were awarded a scholarship when in reality you spent most of your course on probation, but I hope that in the main you will be satisfied with the positions allotted you in these pages. A great deal of credit is due Adolphus Terry for his careful work in the preparation of this Report. The Class also owes thanks to the College Office for kindness in giving information, to the Crimson for the use of their files and also to Messrs. McCarter & Kneeland for their work in preparing this Report. In a compilation of this kind, it is customary to follow the general form of the Reports of the preceding Classes and in this respect I have found the 1910 Report very satisfactory. I am sure we all wish to thank President Lowell for his Baccalaureate Sermon but even more for the care and kindness, which he bestowed upon us while we were in College and through which he has become our everlasting friend. In closing I wish to repeat again what you have heard so often but on which too much stress cannot be laid, namely; that in order that our Class may continue as a unified organization through our years of graduation, it is absolutely necessary that every man send me any change in his address or occupation as well as news of marriages or births.
