The recent CLEO-c results on hadronic decays of D and D{sub s} mesons are presented. First the absolute branching fractions for D and D{sub s} mesons using a double tag technique are discussed, then are the Cabibbo suppressed decays and doubly Cabibbo suppressed decays. Finally, I present the inclusive and rare decay modes and other measurements from CLEO-c. These decays illuminate a wide range of physics. A brief theoretical introduction is given before the corresponding discussion on measurement.

The D/sub s/ is the lowest-lying pseudoscalar meson containing charm and anti-strange quarks. Evidence for this state was first reported in 1977, although more recent observations disagree with some of the early results. Since 1983 the weakly decaying D/sub s/+ has been observed in many experiments. Relative branching fractions have been measured for many non-leptonic decay modes, including D/sub s/+ 2!??+,??+?+?/sup /minus//, /bar K/*°K+, and f0(975)?+. The absolute branching fractions are estimated in high energy e+e/sup /minus// annihilation from the observed numbers of reconstructed D/sub s/+ decays and the expected D/sub s/+ production cross section. The lowest-lying vector c/bar s/ meson, the D/sub s/*+, has also been seen in its decay to?D/sub s/+. Weak decays of the heavy quark and lepton flavors are relevant to the development of the Standard Model of both the electroweak and the strong interactions. Measurements of charmed particle weak decay are useful for determining the parameter of the Standard Model and for testing phenomenological models which include strong effects. 83 refs., 56 figs., 12 tabs.

During the running periods of the years 1992, 1993, 1994 the BES experiment at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC) collected 22.9[plus-minus] 0.7 pb[sup[minus]1] of data at an energy of 4.03 GeV, which corresponds to a local peak for e[sup+]e[sup[minus]][yields] D[sub s][sup+]D[sub s][sup[minus]] production. Four D[sub s] hadronic decay modes were tagged: D[sub s][yields][phi][pi];[phi][yields] K[sup+]K[sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; D[sub s][bar K][sup o]K;[bar K][sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K*;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; K*(892)[yields] K[sup o][pi][sup+]; K[sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]. Using the method of double-tagging, BES performed the first model-independent measurement of BrD[sub s[yields][phi][pi]]. Our result was Br[sub D[sub s][yields][phi][pi]]= 3.4[sub[minus]1.7-0.7][sup+4.8+1.3].

In the spectator model, the lowest lying bound state of the charm-strange quarks, the Ds meson, is predicted to decay via W emission from the charm quark and form states with s{bar s} hidden strangeness. The conventional hadronic modes will contain K{bar K}, [phi] and the f0(975), which is considered to be the J{sup pc} = 0{sup ++} isoscalar s{bar s} meson. Hadronic decays of the Ds meson have been measured in relatively few modes and all modes are measured relative to the [phi][pi] mode. In this paper, an upper limit for the absolute branching ratio of the Ds decay into the [phi][pi] mode and evidence for the decay, Ds → f0(975)[pi] is presented from the Mark III. 26 refs., 4 figs.

We study the semileptonic decays D + & rarr; eta'e+nu and D+ & rarr; etae+nu using 818 pb-1 of e+ e- collisions recorded by the CLEO-c detector located at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. We employ a technique that uses the detector hermeticity to reconstruct the neutrino as missing energy and momentum. We improve the neutrino resolution by developing a generic algorithm to reconstruct the non-signal D, and constrain systematic uncertainties in the efficiency by using the algorithm to measure the branching fractions of D+ and D0 hadronic decays. We observe and measure the branching fractions of 67 hadronic decays, 32 of which are not listed in the PDG 2008. We find B (D+ & rarr; eta'e +nu) = (2.16 +/- 0.53 +/- 0.05 +/- 0.05) x 10-4 and B (D+ & rarr; etae +nu) = (11.7 +/- 0.98 +/- 0.34 +/- 0.26) x 10-4. Among the 67 D hadronic branching fractions observed in this analysis, we discover the decay B (D+ & rarr; pi+etaeta) = (0.34 +/- 0.06 +/- 0.032)% which is unexpectedly large considering the limited phase space available to the decay.
