Summarizes previously unpublished geochemical and heavy mineral data from surveys of humus, till, modern alluvium, and pebbles in the area of the Michipicoten greenstone belt near Wawa, Ontario. Information is included on the regional geology, sampling and analytical methodology, processing of data on kimberlite indicator minerals and metamorphosed magmatic massive sulphide indicator minerals, regional geochemical surveys (for gold, base metals, rare-element pegmatites, and miscellaneous geochemical signatures), and regional heavy mineral surveys. Recommendations are made for gold, base metal, rare-element pegmatite, and kimberlite exploration targets.

Provides data and preliminary interpretations on the types and distribution of kimberlite heavy mineral indicators, metamorphosed magmatic/massive sulphide indicator minerals, and gold grains recovered from modern alluvium, till, and glaciolacustrine samples collected in the Opasatika Lake area located south of Kapuskasing, Ontario. The data can be used to focus exploration efforts for kimberlite, base metal, and gold deposits. Background information is also provided on the bedrock and Quaternary geology of the area, sampling and analytical methods, characteristics of indicator minerals, and data plotting parameters.

This book stems from the multi-stage International Geochemical Mapping (IGM), an International Geological Correlation Programme (IGCP) project, to set up a global geochemical database on the distribution and quantities present of all 92 chemical elements in the surface of the earth. A comprehensive review and evaluation of methods for regional and national geochemical mapping and providing a recognized, global quantitative base on which local investigations can be built for particular environmental and economic problems concerning various aspects of land use.
