As environmental destruction begins to seriously affect humans, it has become increasingly relevant to reflect on the essential elements of the Jewish and Christian theologies of creation. The essays in this volume explore key aspects of creation theology, which poses the question of the origin of the world and of man. Creation theology is rooted in the concept of man who owes his existence to God and who is placed in a cosmos which God created as “good”. At the same time, the essays show that even back in antiquity, the creation discussion held high potential for ideological criticism.
The publication of the first edition of A Bilingual Dictionary of the Hebrew and Aramaic Old Testament by Ludwig Koehler and Walter Baumgartner in 1953 marked a major event in Old Testament studies. It presented a vast treasure of lexicographical material, with renderings into both German and English. Its publication superseded at once all other existing dictionaries, mostly stemming from the 19th century. The Dictionary offered for the first time a strictly alphabetical order of entries, rather than a simple arrangement by roots. This feature not only saved the scholar much time and work, it also set the standard for future lexicographical work on the Old Testament. In 1958 a new, expanded edition was published which included an extensive supplement. Many reprints have followed since, all following the original presentation of a dictionary and supplement in two separate volumes. To this very day the Dictionary remains the only complete and comprehensive English-German dictionary of the Old Testament. In Cognition, Content, and the A Priori, Robert Hanna works out a unified contemporary Kantian theory of rational human cognition and knowledge. Along the way, he provides accounts of (i) intentionality and its contents, including non-conceptual content and conceptual content, (ii) sense perception and perceptual knowledge, including perceptual self-knowledge, (iii) the analytic-synthetic distinction, (iv) the nature of logic, and (v) a priori truth and knowledge in mathematics, logic, and philosophy. This book is specifically intended to reach out to two very different audiences: contemporary analytic philosophers of mind and knowledge on the one hand, and contemporary Kantian philosophers or Kant-scholars on the other. At the same time, it is also riding the crest of a wave of exciting and even revolutionary emerging new trends and new work in the philosophy of mind and epistemology, with a special concentration on the philosophy of perception. What is revolutionary in this new wave are its strong emphases on action, on cognitive phenomenology, on disjunctivist direct realism, on embodiment, and on sense perception as a primitive and proto-rational capacity for cognizing the world. Cognition, Content, and the A Priori makes a fundamental contribution to this philosophical revolution by giving it a specifically contemporary Kantian twist, and by pushing these new lines of investigation radically further.
Dieser Band ist dem Andenken des 200. Todesjahres Fichtes gewidmet, mit der Absicht, seine letzten Schriften und die Aktualität seiner Philosophie zu würdigen. Nach dem Abschluss der Fichte-Gesamtausgabe im Jahre 2012 stehen alle Materialien zur Verfügung, die der Fichte-Forschung ermöglichen, eine schlüssige Interpretation der letzten Gedanken Fichtes zu liefern. Dementsprechend ist der Band in vier Teile gegliedert. Der erste Teil beschäftigt sich mit der theoretischen und systematischen Darlegung seines Denkens in den letzten Berliner Jahren; der zweite Teil thematisiert den Freiheitsgedanken als grundlegende Annahme seines Systems und unternimmt unter Berücksichtigung verschiedener Reaktionen auch den Versuch, diesen zu kontextualisieren. Der dritte Teil ist der politischen Seite seiner Theorie gewidmet, die Fichte gerade in den Berliner Jahren weiter ausarbeitete. Diesen klassischen Themen der Fichte-Forschung folgen im vierten Teil Beiträge, die Fichtes philosophische Ansätze in den Dialog mit gegenwärtigen Autoren und Fragen der Philosophie bringen.
