Employee training has been identified as an important factor in the survival of banking business, particularly in a globally competitive economy with uncertainty as in Nigeria. The Nigerian banking industry faces a number of challenges in relation to employee development. This study investigated the effects of training and manpower development on employee performance in Nigerian banking industry. The survey research design was used. The population of the study comprised 30,006 employees in the Nigerian banking industry from which a sample of 379 respondents was selected using purposive sampling technique. The population was broken into various strata in line with the hierarchy of office seniority. The study concluded that there is need for the Nigerian banking industry to adopt manpower training as an innovative tool for improving employee performance in today's dynamic banking environment.

Stress is a universal and common challenge to organization and employee productivity, it is the reality of modern day workplace. Employees working in different sectors and organizations have to deal with stress. Bank workers are among the group of workers under a great deal of stress due to many antecedents of stress. Stress contributes to decreased organizational performance, decreased employee overall performance, high error rate and poor quality of work, high staff turnover, and absenteeism due to health problems such as anxiety, emotional disorder; work life imbalance; depression and other forms of ailments such as frequent headache; obesity and cardiac arrests. This paper aims to examine the impact of job related stress on employee performance and job satisfaction. A sample of 150 employees from the Nigerian Bank industry of Nigeria was used for this survey. Components of job stress namely: Lack of administrative support; excessive work load and work demand; problematic customer relations; co-worker's relationship; family & work life balance and associated job risks were examined in this study. The objective of the study is to explore the stress related problems of bankers and examine the relationship between stress and performance and the impact of stress on employee performance. The results show that all these factors of stress cause great stress in Nigerian bankers and negatively impacts their performance. The findings of this study support the findings of a similar study on banking sector of Pakistan conducted by Usman Basher and Muhammad Ismail which showed that job stress significantly reduce the performance of an individual. Job stress is considered rising and has become challenge for the employer and because high level stress is results in low productivity, increased absenteeism and collection to other employee problems like alcoholism, drug abuse, hypertension and host of cardiovascular problems (Meneze 2005). Personality factors have shown inclination towards stress, anxiety, and other occupational health outcomes in different areas of medicine, and these factors may contribute to feelings of job dissatisfaction and stress (Michie and Williams 2003). Thus it was recommended that employer should proactively minimize stress by providing adequate administrative support to employees; Optimize work load, effectively manage customer expectations, minimize relationship and role conflict, deploy adequate reward system and provide adequate training and counseling to employees in order to improve their job performance and job satisfaction.

The quarrel of this study is that workers in the banking sector are not properly trained to key into the professionalism area of the banking system. Even when they are trained, they cannot easily cope due to the poor training system used. The main aim of this study is to determine the impact of skill acquisition on organizational productivity. Ordinary least square (OLS) was employed and data were analyzed using regression table and correlation coefficient. T-test statistics was utilized to test the formulated hypotheses at 5% (per cent) level of significance. Findings revealed that there is a positive relationship between skill acquisition and organizational productivity. We therefore, conclude that the processes involved in training and development are not duly followed and this has affected the productivity of commercial banks in Nigeria.

Performance Management focuses on the organizational and employees' performances and the system that are usually employed for carrying out the process of evaluation. Performance Management System (PMS) is said to have been developed and implemented resulting in the failure to deliver the results people expect from it. This is one of the biggest challenges facing line managers and human resource unit of most establishments and it usually escalates to different approaches from employee's perspectives. The main objective of the paper is to examine the effect of Performance Management System (PMS) on Employees' Attitude in the Nigerian Banking Sector. The study used Stratified Sampling Technique to select a total number of one hundred and eighty (180) staff from Head Offices of the fifteen (15) listed Banks in Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Data obtained were analyzed and presented using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Correlation and regression analysis were used to test the hypotheses formulated for the study. The findings revealed that R2 of 0.2177, 0.4066 and 0.6687 values suggested that variables in the model are all jointly significantly influence the probability of the Nigerian banking sector performing better. The study concluded that the implementation of PMS is said to be the commencement of changed attitude to work due to continuous and systematic assessment of employees' performance on a regular basis. Noting that PMS in the Nigerian Banking Sector would obtain better results if they can further improve some segments of PMS such as objective performance, monitoring and evaluation. The study recommended that; management should continue to communicate the importance of Performance Management System (PMS) to employees until the process is entrenched and also the outcomes should be channeled to employee developmental and promotional purposes.
