DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Strategic Framework for enhancing control and achieving elimination of human-to[1]human transmission of mpox (2024-2027) is a guide to Member States on the next phase of the global mpox response and to enhance preparedness for future outbreaks. During the public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) for the global mpox outbreak (July 2022-May 2023), the WHO supported Member States in taking action to stop the outbreak of mpox. In the transition from emergency to long-term response, WHO now recommends that all countries develop and implement plans for mpox control and the elimination of person-to-person transmission of this infectious disease, while continuing to ensure mitigation of zoonotic transmission. This strategic framework supports the development of these strategies.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn 2023, the World Health Organization was responding to 72 health emergencies, including 19 grade 3, reaching millions of people. The annual report on WHO’s response to health emergencies in 2023 outlines the increasingly critical role of WHO at global, regional and country levels, and across the key elements of effective emergency response, including emergency coordination and planning, operational and logistic support, and community engagement and protection. The huge scale and complexities of health emergencies in the 21st century require a strategic shift towards not only meeting the immediate needs of vulnerable communities, but also building community and health system resilience to all hazards – a challenge that both WHO and its partners must continue to meet.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWithin the continuum of reproductive health care, antenatal care provides a platform for important health-care functions, including health promotion, screening and diagnosis, and disease prevention. It has been established that, by implementing timely and appropriate evidence-based practices, antenatal care can save lives. Endorsed by the United Nations Secretary-General, this is a comprehensive WHO guideline on routine antenatal care for pregnant women and adolescent girls. It aims to complement existing WHO guidelines on the management of specific pregnancy-related complications. The guidance captures the complex nature of the antenatal care issues surrounding healthcare practices and delivery, and prioritizes person-centered health and well-being --- not only the prevention of death and morbidity --- in accordance with a human rights-based approach.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAnimal disease surveillance is key to improving disease analysis, early warning and predicting disease emergence and spread. As a preventive measure, disease surveillance is aimed at reducing animal health-related risks and major consequences of disease outbreaks on food production and livelihoods. Early warning systems are dependent on the quality of animal disease information collected at all levels via effective surveillance; therefore, data gathering and sharing is essential to understand the dynamics of animal diseases in diverse agro-ecological settings to support effective decision-making to prevent disease and for emergency response. Animal disease surveillance systems track zoonotic dieases and identify emerging diseases and, as such, are recognized as a global public good to support improved animal and global public health.
