DOWNLOAD EBOOKAnnotation In 1950, Stebbins (d. 2000) published Variation and Evolution in Plants, which extended the synthetic theory of evolution or "the modern synthesis" to plants. These 17 papers are drawn from a National Academy of Sciences colloquium held in January 2000 on the 50th anniversary of the publication of Stebbins' classic. Following a Stebbins appreciation talk (originally slotted for his own words), papers branch into sections on: early evolution and the origin of cells, virus and bacterial models, protoctist models (having to do with RNA editing), population variation, and trends and patterns in plant evolution. DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe secretions of the exocrine pancreas provide for digestion of a meal into components that are then available for processing and absorption by the intestinal epithelium. Without the exocrine pancreas, malabsorption and malnutrition result. This chapter describes the cellular participants responsible for the secretion of digestive enzymes and fluid that in combination provide a pancreatic secretion that accomplishes the digestive functions of the gland. Key cellular participants, the acinar cell and the duct cell, are responsible for digestive enzyme and fluid secretion, respectively, of the exocrine pancreas. This chapter describes the neurohumoral pathways that mediate the pancreatic response to a meal as well as details of the cellular mechanisms that are necessary for the organ responses, including protein synthesis and transport and ion transports, and the regulation of these responses by intracellular signaling systems. Examples of pancreatic diseases resulting from dysfunction in cellular mechanisms provide emphasis of the importance of the normal physiologic mechanisms.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis is an open access book. It gives us immense pleasure to invite you to join international conference 5th BioSangam, “BioSangam 2022: Emerging trends in Biotechnology”, to be held at one of the most ancient and culturally rich city of India “Kumbh Nagari”, Prayagraj from March 10-12, 2022. Unfortunately, due to ongoing COVID-19 situation, this BioSangam 2022 will be held in online mode. The conference is being organized by Department of Biotechnology, Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT) Allahabad, Prayagraj UP India with an aim to promote excellence in scientific knowledge and innovation in biotechnology and related disciplines to motivate young researchers. The conference also envisages providing a forum to researchers around the globe to explore and discuss on various aspects on recent advances in the field of agriculture, environment and health that has dynamically opened up new avenues of research. It will provide deep insights into innovations, challenges and growth opportunities in diversified domains of Biotechnology. The conference consists of various sessions including keynotes, plenary talks and parallel sessions. Each session will be addressed by outstanding experts who will highlight recent advances in various facets of biotechnology. It will also offer budding scientist an opportunity to present their work in front of eminent experts of their field and compete for various awards like BioSangam Young Scientist Awards-2022.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"Methods in Protein Sequence Analysis - 1988" - contains selected contributions on modern protein- analytical techniques as presented by speakers at the Seventh International Conference on "Methods in Protein Sequence Analysis", held from July 3rd to July 8th, 1988 in Berlin. The book contains information on new methodologies for sensitive amino acid analysis, N- and C-terminal sequence analysis, and protein and peptide purification. In addition recent mass spectrometric approaches are described, as an alter native technique to the common stepwise degradative sequence analysis of polypeptides by the Edman method. The book presents new possibilities in the design of sequencers and sophisticated equipment for the structural analysis of peptides and proteins. It describes practical approaches for the investigation of protein domains and protein complexes, and contains review chapters on the crystallization of cell organelles as well as on recent theoretical aspects of protein folding mechanisms. The nature of protein folding is not yet understood, but further advances in this area would greatly enhance our present knowledge of protein structure and function. Further, the book gives examples of the application of gene technology to protein characterization and to the design of new proteins. This enables new studies on the structure and function of proteins to be made, and opens up efficient approaches to the design of drugs.
