Excerpt from Catalogue of a Very Fine Collection of U. S. And Foreign Coins, Medals, Tokens, Etc., The Property of P. H. Hill, Esq. Of Brooklyn: To Be Sold at Public Auction, Without Reserve We wish to call particular attention to the fact that the coins in this collection are to be sold in the evening instead of the after noon, as usual. We have made this change for the convenience of gentlemen who are unable to attend auctions held in the day time, thereby giving all an opportunity of purchasing, and also of seeing what they buy. The coins will be on exhibition through out the day in the salesroom. In regard to the condition of the various pieces, we can assure intending purchasers at a distance that they have all been faith fully described, and all are warranted genuine unless otherwise stated. For the pieces that are to be sold, the catalogue is the best guide; and even a cursory glance through its pages will show the amateur that there are pieces which would be a desirable acquisi tion to any collection in the country, the collection of American silver is remarkable for the variety of dies and merits of the vari ous pieces and the foreign copper coins are remarkably extensive. In reference to the method of selling at auction, we would say that each lot is sold to the highest bidder, at so much for each coin in the lot, so if a lot containing ten pieces is desired, and the col lector wishes to bid $1. For it, he should bid 10 cents each. Always state your highest price, replying on the honor of those you employ to make the purchase for you at as low a figure as possible. Collectors are requested to send in their bids at as early a date as possible as the mails are sometimes delayed so that bids sent do not arrive till after the day of sale. Note. When there is more than one coin in a lot, they will be sold for so much apiece for each coin in the lot.
