This book provides an overview of the history of integrative bioinformatics and the actual situation and the relevant tools. Subjects cover the essential topics, basic introductions, and latest developments; biological data integration and manipulation; modeling and simulation of networks; as well as a number of applications of integrative bioinformatics. It aims to provide basic introduction of biological information systems and guidance for the computational analysis of systems biology. This book covers a range of issues and methods that unveil a multitude of omics data integration and relevance that integrative bioinformatics has today. It contains a unique compilation of invited and selected articles from the Journal of Integrative Bioinformatics (JIB) and annual meetings of the International Symposium on Integrative Bioinformatics.
In recent years there has been a growing awareness of the importance of reproductive biology to crop production and there has been a tremendous increase in research on reproductive structures of higher plants. Presented here is a wide information of different aspects of micro- and macrosporogenesis, pollen-stigma interaction and recognition, pollen tube growth, cytoskeleton, in vitro and in vivo gamete fusion, and incompatibility. The most advanced techniques employed in studies on reproductive biology of higher plants are described in detail.
The last 15 years in development of biology were marked with accumulation of unprecedentedly huge arrays of experimental data. The information was amassed with exclusively high rates due to the advent of highly efficient experimental technologies that provided for high throughput genomic sequencing; of functional genomics technologies allowing investigation of expression dynamics of large groups of genes using expression DNA chips; of proteomics methods giving the possibility to analyze protein compositions of cells, tissues, and organs, assess the dynamics of the cell proteome, and reconstruct the networks of protein-protein interactions; and of metabolomics, in particular, high resolution mass spectrometry study of cell metabolites, and distribution of metabolic fluxes in the cells with a concurrent investigation of the dynamics of thousands metabolites in an individual cell. Analysis, comprehension, and use of the tremendous volumes of experimental data reflecting the intricate processes underlying the functioning of molecular genetic systems are unfeasible in principle without the systems approach and involvement of the state-of-the-art information and computer technologies and efficient mathematical methods for data analysis and simulation of biological systems and processes. The need in solving these problems initiated the birth of a new science— postgenomic bioinformatics or systems biology in silico.
Highlighting the latest advances in stochastic analysis and its applications, this volume collects carefully selected and peer-reviewed papers from the 5th International Conference on Stochastic Methods (ICSM-5), held in Moscow, Russia, November 23-27, 2020. The contributions deal with diverse topics such as stochastic analysis, stochastic methods in computer science, analytical modeling, asymptotic methods and limit theorems, Markov processes, martingales, insurance and financial mathematics, queueing theory and stochastic networks, reliability theory, risk analysis, statistical methods and applications, machine learning and data analysis.
