Excerpt from Biennial Report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction of North Carolina, Vol. 1: For the Scholastic Years 1932-1933 and 1933-1934; Summary and Recommendations Conditions are noticeably improved over what they were even three months ago when my predecessor, the late Dr. A. T. Allen, made his request of to the Advisory Budget Commission as his estimate of the annual amount necessary to Operate the eight months public schools for each year of the ensuing biennium. Taking into consideration these improved economic conditions and the fact that I believe that our people desire that the salaries of those who have stood by the ship during this depression be raised, and believing furthermore that the State is able to take this step, I am recommending that the annual State appropriation for the support of public schools for an eight months term be for the ensuing biennium. I make this recommendation also after a careful consideration of the expenditures made during the preceding year according to the objects and items of the budget and on the basis of the increases as set forth in the following table. Excerpt from Biennial Report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction of North Carolina, Vol. 1: For the Scholastic Years 1933-1934 and 1935-1936; Summary and Recommendations Chapter I contains my recommendations to the General Assembly. The other chapters present briefly information largely in statistical form rela tive to the historical development of public education in North Carolina. A large part of the several chapters was prepared by staff members and printed in the February, 1936, number of N orth Carolina, Education, official organ of The North Carolina Education Association. These articles have been slightly rewritten and reprinted here for historical purposes. This treatise is not presumed to be complete, but is intended Simply to touch some of the recorded facts which happened largely during the present century. It is to be hoped that this effort has been worthwhile, and that when the historian comes to-tell the story of public education for this period, he will find this report of some value. I am sure that anyone read ing these pages will be impressed with the remarkable progress. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
