DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis edition provides a comprehensive methodological framework for collection and compilation of international merchandise trade statistics in all countries, irrespective of the level of development of their statistical system. The conceptual framework reflects both the multipurpose nature of these statistics and concern for availability of the adequate data sources and data compilation procedures. It is intended primarily for the producers of international trade statistics, particularly the staff of national statistical offices and/or customs involved in the collection and compilation of merchandise trade statistics, but may be also useful to researchers and other users interested in better understanding the nature of trade statistics.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIf all countries follow a strategy of food self-sufficiency on the one hand an of exporting their surpluses on the other, conflicts will be inevitable. This volume contains five studies of scholars from ASEAN and Europe that address various aspects of trade in tropical agricultural products between ASEAN and the European Community (EC). A comprehensive background picture of the agricultural sector in the ASEAN economies is given, and the EC strategy of giving preferences to the so-called Lome countries of Subsaharan Africa, the Carribean, and the Pacific is described. The negative aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy of the EC are analysed in a simulation model, and in a further contribution the specific impact of the Lome Conventions on the ASEAN countries is studied.
