AIDS and TB, “the deadly two” are public health concerns that have devastated the global village, with Africa being grossly affected and accounting for more than 70% of the human tragedy. There is no cure for AIDS - there is a cure for TB. Despite this very basic fact, millions of people do not have the knowledge to prevent HIV infections that causes AIDS. In the same vein, more than two million people die every year due to TB alone and half a million due to TB combined with AIDS. This book is about TB, HIV infections and AIDS education (AIDucation). It is about empowering communities to prevent TB and HIV infections. It is about caring for those living with TB, HIV and AIDS. This book is about taking control of TB, which can lead to preventing new TB and HIV infections. This is a true African story.

TB and AIDS are visiting and touching many homes in both the developed and developing countries leaving misery, suffering, orphans and in many cases death, that could have been prevented and avoided. This book is for the AIDucators that have participated in driving AIDucation 20-10 in the communities of London. It is for those friends that I had social intercourses with on those Friday and Saturday evenings. It is for the health promoters, the politicians, the pastors, the ministers, the imams, the teachers, the students, the youth, the volunteers, the carers and all those who want to make a difference and bring TB and AIDS under control. The book addresses basic issues that we need to know: Facts on HIV infections, AIDS and TB; the HIV test, voluntary counselling and testing (VCT); common sexually transmitted infections; common HIV associated conditions and the popular Isle of Wight powerpoint presentation that was given to the Christian youths at their summer camp in August 2009. This book might be useful to medical students and nursing students.

BOOK DESCRIPTION: AIDUCATION 20-10 Taking Control of AIDS. This book is about a unique HIV/AIDS education (AIDucation) teaching strategy. The strategy was pioneered by a district medical officer who worked in Zambia (1987-1990) and Botswana (1990-2002), looking after African patients admitted to the wards with various tropical conditions including HIV infections, TB and AIDS. This is a true life story of an African medical doctor who wanted to prevent new HIV infections and to give better care and support to people living with HIV infections, TB and AIDS. It is a story of an African teaching intervention strategy that was not taken seriously and called " controversial radical shock tactics alarmist " and other names by foreign consultants coming to Africa to assess Africa's AIDS Control programmes. The unique teaching strategy was born in 1989 at Livingstone General Hospital in Zambia with very little support from the leadership. Sheer determination, belief and vision with action has made AIDUCATION 20-10 part of the university modules on Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene (DTM&H) and Diploma in Tropical Nursing (DTN)courses for medical doctors and nurses respectively in Europe. The AIDucation initiative is 20 years old with 10 very successful years in Botswana (AIDUCATION 20-10). Is AIDUCATION 20-10 part of university courses in Africa? Not yet, as Africa waits for the consultants to give a go ahead...hopefully in the near future as AIDUCATION goes into its 21 years as a workable community teaching and sensitisation African initiative.

An insightful historical account of Phoenicia that illustrates its cities, culture, and daily life Hélène Sader presents the history and archaeology of Phoenicia based on the available contemporary written sources and the results of archaeological excavations in Phoenicia proper. Sader explores the origin of the term Phoenicia; the political and geographical history of the city-states Arwad, Byblos, Sidon, and Tyre; and topography, climate, and natural resources of the Phoenician homeland. Her limited focus on Phoenicia proper, in contrast to previous studies that included information from Phoenician colonies, presents the bare realities of the opportunities and difficulties shaping Phoenician life. Sader’s evaluation and synthesis of the evidence offers a corrective to the common assumption of a unified Phoenician kingdom. Features Historical as well as modern maps with the locations of all relevant archaeological sites Faunal and floral analyses that shed light on the Phoenician diet Petrographic analysis of pottery that sheds light on trading patterns and developments

Berea College, founded in 1855 on the principles of socio-educational equality, is an institution devoted to giving voices to the oppressed. This book, Critical Storytelling during the COVID-19 Pandemic, is a tribute to giving students from a variety of backgrounds a voice for the displacement they felt during the raging spikes of the early pandemic period. Each student offers their take on the pandemic itself, how it affected their education, as well as how it displaced them. From stories of exile to those of triumph, this work is a heralding account of dozens of students' experiences.

Environmental Geomechanics covers a broad class of problems where deforming geomaterials are involved, usually coupled with fluid flow and transport of some substance. Transport of contaminants and other substances may occur in the fluids, e.g. water, water vapour and air, filling the pores of geomaterials as happens in waste disposal problems or durability problems. Mass transport also takes place in reservoir engineering problems, where the fluids involved are oil, water, and gas. All these aspects are addressed in this book together with a theoretical framework.

Estimates the number of children orphaned in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as current research on the impact of AIDS and orphaning. Information about orphans in the region has increased significantly in recent years and research has become more rigorous. And, while information on other vulnerable children in the region lags far behind, the situation of some well-defined groups, such as children living with chronically ill parents, is now being studied more systematically. This report is meant to shed light on the circumstances of children affected by the AIDS epidemic and to encourage action.--Introduction.
