Experience music history with this memoir by one of the last of the genuine old school Blues and R&B legends, the Grammy-winning dynamic showman Bobby Rush. This memoir charts the extraordinary rise to fame of living blues legend, Bobby Rush. Born Emmett Ellis, Jr. in Homer, Louisiana, he adopted the stage name Bobby Rush out of respect for his father, a pastor. As a teenager, Rush acquired his first real guitar and started playing in juke joints in Little Rock, Arkansas, donning a fake mustache to trick club owners into thinking he was old enough to gain entry. He led his first band in Arkansas between Little Rock and Pine Bluff in the 1950s. It was there he first had Elmore James play in his band. Rush later relocated to Chicago to pursue his musical career and started to work with Earl Hooker, Luther Allison, and Freddie King, and sat in with many of his musical heroes, such as Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Little Walter. Rush eventually began leading his own band in the 1960s, crafting his own distinct style of funky blues, and recording a succession of singles for various labels. It wasn't until the early 1970s that Rush finally scored a hit with "Chicken Heads." More recordings followed, including an album which went on to be listed in the Top 10 blues albums of the 1970s by Rolling Stone and a handful of regional jukebox favorites including "Sue" and "I Ain't Studdin' Ya." And Rush's career shows no signs of slowing down now. The man once beloved for performing in local jukejoints is now headlining major music/blues festivals, clubs, and theaters across the U.S. and as far as Japan and Australia. At age eighty-six, he is still on the road for over 200 days a year. His lifelong hectic tour schedule has earned him the affectionate title "King of the Chitlin' Circuit," from Rolling Stone. In 2007, he earned the distinction of being the first blues artist to play at the Great Wall of China. His renowned stage act features his famed shake dancers, who personify his funky blues and his ribald sense of humor. He was featured in Martin Scorcese's The Blues docuseries on PBS, a documentary film called Take Me to the River, performed with Dan Aykroyd on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and most recently had a cameo in the Golden Globe nominated Netflix film, Dolemite Is My Name, starring Eddie Murphy. He was recently given the highest Blues Music Award honor of B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. His songs have also been featured in TV shows and films including HBO's Ballers and major motion pictures like Black Snake Moan, starring Samuel L. Jackson. Considered by many to be the greatest bluesman currently performing, this book will give readers unparalleled access into the man, the myth, the legend: Bobby Rush.

First published in 1943, this autobiography is also a superb portrait of America's Depression years, by the folk singer, activist, and man who saw it all. Woody Guthrie was born in Oklahoma and traveled this whole country over—not by jet or motorcycle, but by boxcar, thumb, and foot. During the journey of discovery that was his life, he composed and sang words and music that have become a national heritage. His songs, however, are but part of his legacy. Behind him Woody Guthrie left a remarkable autobiography that vividly brings to life both his vibrant personality and a vision of America we cannot afford to let die. “Even readers who never heard Woody or his songs will understand the current esteem in which he’s held after reading just a few pages… Always shockingly immediate and real, as if Woody were telling it out loud… A book to make novelists and sociologists jealous.” —The Nation

Geyer Street Gardens, is the fourth book in the series of The Adventures of Harry and Paul and it is Paul John Hausleben's epic novel of a journey not only through the violent* sport of hockey but also of a journey through life. Jam-packed into well over 300 pages is hockey action both on the ice and off the ice, colorful hockey and life characters, humorous situations typical of Harry and Paul, sadness and sorrow and the joy of triumph in the sport and in life. Told through the eyes of a hockey goaltender, in the first person of the character of Paul John Henson, this novel brings the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions, from humor, to an inside look at what it is really like staring down one-hundred-mile per hour slapshots, to the details and descriptions of colorful characters in semi-professional ice hockey during the era of the 1970s and 1980s, to the joy of success. This novel is another story from the adventures of Harry M. Redmond Jr. and his best friend, Paul John Henson. Humorous, authentic, and emotional, Mr. Hausleben weaves a magical tale, while filling in many of the missing pieces in the timelines of his two famous characters. The novel also introduces many more popular characters, such as the famous hockey goon and immensely popular character of James T O'Malley. Geyer Street Gardens is a novel about much more than just the sport of hockey, it is also about how a sport shaped a young man's life, and in fact, his soul. Since the author actually was a semi-professional ice hockey goaltender during this era, and he played the position and met many of the people that spawned the inspiration for the characters, the novel is not only authentic; it is one of the few fiction novels ever written on the subject from an authentic viewpoint of a hockey goaltender. The book perfectly depicts what it was like to play hockey during the era, the challenges of acceptance for Americans in the predominantly Canadian sport and how dedication and determination, ultimately prevail in not only sports but in life. Hockey fan or not, or just a Harry and Paul fan, or just a reader of epic novels, you do not want to miss the view and the insight from beneath the goalie’s mask! Grab a copy today. As a bonus, the book includes pages of classic photography by the author, including current photographs of the actual sites depicted in the book, as well as vintage shots of hockey action and equipment. *This novel does contain mild adult language, as well as some violent and graphic descriptions of hockey and sports-related action and injuries.

The contemporary figure has somewhat similar characteristics to his father, grandfather, and great grandfather; a soul-searching thinker, all the same, departing from the ruinous while conserving the beneficial side of the culture, customs and manners in which he was raised and the larger generational dimensions embedded in it. A virtual page-turner, highly intense and graphically detailed, the saga continues to unfold. Characters readily identifiable in your own life, cheek by jowl with the hero and foe, stir and percolate the gamut of your emotions. Rooting for the one while despising the other, you’re propelled into the bowels of the narrative. Some personalities appear to be born evil and feed on the environs; others tend to virtue and progress upon it. Protagonists and antagonists are mixed and varied: some eternal optimists finding happiness even in dark periods; some risk takers in the will for clarity putting reputation on the line; some perpetually abstruse, their sad comfort zone; and the many up and down others. The Stanoli patriarch was fond of saying, “There is nothing greater than loving God and loving your neighbor,” and “I am a learner and willing to be corrected and criticized in order to become what I ought to become no matter where it comes from,” and “I make it my moral ambition to be happy around others.”
