The era of web technology has enabled information and application sharing through the Internet. The large amount of information on the Internet, the large number of users, and the complexity of the application and information types have introduced new areas whereby these issues are explored and addressed.
Developing Web Information Systems brings together traditional system development methods that have been taught for many years on information systems and computer science courses with web/e-commerce development. It is the first book to bring together IS development and the web applications in a thorough and systematic way. There is a running case study that illustrates web IS development from start to finish. The case is easy to understand (a theatre) and results in a working web application. Most, if not all, analysis and design texts fall short of making that step into software. The book draws heavily on practical experiences of web-based IS development resulting from commercial system development, so as well as appealing to students and academics, it will also interest practitioners. The coverage of data management and e-business strategy gives the book the broader scope essential for understanding IS development properly in an Internet context. - First book to bring together IS development and web applications thoroughly and systematically - Covers full development process from strategy, through analysis and design, to working software - Interactive case study which can be accessed on author's website
This book contains the thoroughly refereed and revised best papers from the 6th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies, WEBIST 2010, held in Valencia, Spain, in April 2010, organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), in collaboration with ACM SIGMIS and co-sponsored by the Workflow Management Coalition (WFMC). The 21 papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 205 submissions. The papers are grouped into four parts on Internet Technology; Web Interfaces and Applications; Society, e-Business, and e-Government; and Web Intelligence.
This book contains a selection of articles from The 2013 World Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (WorldCIST'13), a global forum for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, results, experiences and concerns in the several perspectives of Information Systems and Technologies. The main topics covered are: Information and Knowledge Management; Organizational Models and Information Systems; Intelligent and Decision Support Systems; Software Systems, Architectures, Applications and Tools; Computer Networks, Mobility and Pervasive Systems; Radar Technologies; and Human-Computer Interaction.
This book constitutes revised selected papers from the 16th and 17th International Conferences on Web Information Systems and Technologies, WEBIST 2020 and WEBIST 2021, which took place virtually in November 2020 and October 2021, respectively. The 10 full papers from WEBIST 2021 and 1 full paper from WEBIST 2020 presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from originally 48 paper submissions in 2020 and 107 submissions in 2021. The selected papers contribute to the understanding of relevant current research trends in Web information systems and technologies, including deep learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, recommender systems, internet of things, Web intelligence and big data.
This book constitutes revised selected papers from the 11th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies, WEBIST 2015, held in Lisbon, Portugal, May 20-22, 2015, organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), and technically sponsored by the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS). The purpose of the WEBIST series of conferences is to bring together researches, engineers and practitioners interested in technological advances and business applications of web-based information systems. The 17 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected originally 115 paper submissions. They were organized in topical sections names: web interfaces and applications; internet technology; society, e-business and e-government; web intelligence; and mobile information systems.
This book contains a selection of the best papers from WEBIST 2008 (the Fourth International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies), held in Funchal, Madeira, in 2008, organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), and co-sponsored by the Wo- flow Management Coalition (WfMC). The purpose of the WEBIST series of conferences is to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the technological advances and business - plications of web-based information systems. The series focuses on four main topic areas, covering different aspects of web information systems, including internet te- nology; web interfaces and applications; society, e-business, and e-government; and e-learning. WEBIST 2008 received 238 paper submissions from more than 40 countries on all continents. A double-blind review process was enforced, with the help of more than 200 experts from the international Program Committee, each of them specialized in one of the main conference topic areas. After reviewing, 32 papers were selected to be published and presented as full papers and 64 additional papers, describing work-- progress, as short papers for oral presentation only. Furthermore, 58 papers were p- sented as posters. The full-paper acceptance ratio was 13%, and the total oral paper acceptance ratio was 40%. Therefore, we hope that you find the papers included in this book interesting, and we trust they may represent a helpful reference in the future for all those who need to address any of the research areas mentioned above.
This book constitutes revised selected papers from the 13th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies, WEBIST 2017, held in Porto, Portugal, in April 2017. The purpose of the WEBIST series of conferences is to bring together researches, engineers and practitioners interested in technological advances and business applications of web-based information systems. The 12 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from originally 77 paper submissions. They contribute to the understanding of relevant trends of current research on Web information systems and technologies, comprising unified interfaces, Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) as well as a mobile device taxonomy, XML and open data processing, the history of Web engineering, web development for end-users, access control, Web platform assessment, rule engines, and scientific blogging.
This book contains the thoroughly refereed and revised best papers from the 9th International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies, WEBIST 2013, held in Aachen, Germany, in May 2013, organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC), and co-organized by the RWTH Aachen University. The 15 papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 143 submissions. The papers were selected from those with the best reviews also taking into account the quality of their presentation at the conference. The papers are grouped into parts on Internet technology, Web interfaces and applications, society, e-business and e-government, Web intelligence, and mobile information systems.
