Excerpt from Universalism Against Partialism: In a Series of Lectures Delivered in Newburyport, Mass One word about the title which I have thought proper to prefix to this work. By the term partialz'sm I mean no disrespect. Here I have consulted propriety and the fit ness of things. We call ourselves Univer salists because we believe in the ultimate, universal salvation of the world. In these lectures I have labored to present the claims of two opposite doctrines. You believe in but a partial salvation; and what, therefore, for an argument of this kind, could I have chosen more appropriate to contrast with Uni versalism? I beg, therefore, that you will consider it no disrespect; and, as long as you hold to what you now do, to be content with the fitting title we have chosen to indicate the contents of our book, Universalism against Partiah'sm.
