Hyper-spiritual approaches to finding God's will don't work. It's time to try something new: Give up. Pastor and author Kevin DeYoung counsels Christians to settle down, make choices, and do the hard work of seeing those choices through. Too often, he writes, God's people tinker around with churches, jobs, and relationships, worrying that they haven't found God's perfect will for their lives. Or-even worse-they do absolutely nothing, stuck in a frustrated state of paralyzed indecision, waiting...waiting...waiting for clear, direct, unmistakable direction. But God doesn't need to tell us what to do at each fork in the road. He's already revealed his plan for our lives: to love him with our whole hearts, to obey His Word, and after that, to do what we like. No need for hocus-pocus. No reason to be directionally challenged. Just do something.

In Once Caught, No Escape, Norman Grubb's autobiography, we come to know a remarkable soldier of Christ, one who has made a unique contribution to Christian thinking in the 20th century. This riveting account of his life includes a fascinating description of missionary life in the early 1900's in the heart of Africa, his memories of World War I army days, and his little-known role in the development of the Christian Literature Crusade and Intervarsity Fellowship. Norman shares the three spiritual crises that shaped his life-his salvation, his identity in Christ, and his seeming loss of faith. How he forever settled his Galatians 2:20 identity by faith is critical to an understanding of his life and serve as a roadmap for all facing the same heart cry, and his interpretation of his final crisis is a superb and concise summary of what he came to call the total truth, expanded and developed in his later works and was to become the keystone of his theology for the rest of his life. In the foreword to Once Caught, No Escape, Norman says that he has written "straight out of my heart and mind," and that he has surely done. He writes with unreserved honesty, self-deprecating humor, and profound insight. He was a man drenched in the scriptures, and totally dedicated to sharing the great truth of Jesus Christ-our savior, indweller, and life. He laid down his life that many others might come to know who they are in Christ, and paid the intercessor's price to do so. The book is aptly titled, for once God "captured" him, Norman was driven to share the truth he knew, no matter the cost.

This book offers fresh insight on what the Bible says about learning. Teaching and learning are more effective when people are viewed with heart - with the image of God within them. This book contains the most complete research available about heart in the Bible. The Bible says the heart knows, considers, speaks, remembers, deceives, meditates and other functions that modernists like to attribute to the brain. This book also reports physiological research that shows the Bible was right all along in the way it spoke about heart. A chart in the appendix summarizes almost 1000 Bible references to heart by meaning.

A Proverb a Day Keeps the Devil Away applies the principles of God found in the Book of Proverbs to daily living. Illustrations are used to trigger the memories of its readers to past and present experiences in life; hopefully, causing the lesson of each devotion to profoundly impact the reader. These illustrations stem from relationships, home, work, play, decisions, reactions, thoughts, injustice and justice. Some are humorous and some very serious. Each one demonstrates the theme of that verse. The Book of Proverbs is as timely as time itself. Times have changed but people have not. They still face the hard issues of life: the same fears and hurts, the same temptations and sin, the same struggle with what is right and wrong, and the same questions about what role God really plays in their life. This devotional study aids its readers in getting a grip on these challenges. Philip Ayers was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on March 2nd, 1948. He is the second born of a family of five. Very early in his life, his family moved to Salem, Virginia, where he resided until he joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of seventeen. He served in the Viet Nam conflict. He was wounded three times, and was awarded the Navy Commendation Metal with Combat "V" for heroic action in the face of the enemy. Philip played quarterback for the Marine Corps' national football team, the Quantico Marines. He was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant. Philip was saved on March 30th, 1980. Jesus Christ called him to ministry in 1981. He is the pastor of a local church in Roanoke, Virginia. He brings a large pool of experience and Bible knowledge to his readers.
