The moral theology of Hans G. Ulrich is presented here in English for the first time. These collected essays represent the culmination of a lifetime of reflection on Christian living from this German theologian in conversation with Luther, Bonhoeffer, and contemporary philosophers and theologians. Ulrich's ethics affirm the lively presence of the living work of God in orienting the daily life of Christians. This presence enables members of the Church to live as creatures trusting in God's promises, bearing witness in political and economic spheres, and trusting in life as a gift in response to bioethical issues. Ulrich's fresh take on living out of the promise of God yields further guidance on issues in international relations, economics, parenting, disability, and more.

Our Bibles consistently use the noun 'Transfiguration' with regard to Jesus but 'Transformation' with regard to the Christian - and yet it is one and the same verb, transliterated 'metamorphosed, ' that is used in those places in the original text. Why is that so? Is there an important difference between them? And why does the noun 'metamorphosis' which is familiar to us never occur in the New Testament? And yet is there some connection between the Transfiguration of Jesus and the Transformation of the Christian? Hywel R. Jones presents answers to these questions in this book. In the course of doing so he shows how the divine can penetrate the human without destroying it as in the Person of Christ, and how the human can become conformed to the divine without its ceasing to be human as in the case of the Christian. That kind of metamorphosis accords and exalts the Christian gospel over against the humanism of our culture, whether secularised or spiritualised. There is a distinction between God and Man which will never be obliterated but preserved for ever - even in the glorified Christ in whom they are joined. But communion between the God-Man and his believing people will result in each Christian being fully conformed to the perfect humanity of Christ while retaining his or her own individuality. It will not result in a faceless absorption into the divine but face to face communion with the triune God for ever. 'The transfiguration of Christ shows how the divine can penetrate the human without destroying it. The transformation of the believer shows how the human can become conformed to the divine without its ceasing to be human. This is the ultimate metamorphosis that is compatible with Christian truth.' -- HYWEL R. JONES

The Transfiguration, one of the most mysterious miracles of Christ, has been mostly misunderstood for two millennia.“Andreas Andreopoulos approaches the Transfiguration explaining its significance in the continuing experience of the church and in the personal journey of each Christian. He sees the Transfiguration as ‘a timeless story,’ as ‘an event that keeps on happening.’ He writes in a way that is vivid yet profound and often unexpected. Reading his text, I have come to look at Christ’s Transfiguration, and our own, with new eyes and a fresh understanding.” —From the Foreword by Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia

This book is written that you may better understand the purposes of God and the methods employed by him in bringing you and me into complete harmony with him. His purpose is to reconcile us fullyspirit, soul, and bodythat we may stand before him without blemish and as pure and holy as he is. Will you let him? Will you let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5)? Are you willing to have your mind renewed by the Word and Spirit of God (Romans 12:2)? If so, you may be prompted by the Spirit to reexamine some of your preconceived ideas and teachings. Your thinking, without a doubt, will be challenged by this book. This will prove to be a very healthy exercise that I promise will acquaint you more fully with the truth and depth of Gods Word. We will begin with a rather lofty theme but immediately settle down to some stepping stones. These stepping stones will bring us, line upon line and precept upon precept, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ (Ephesians 4:13). This book will help you understand our coming into full harmony with the person of God. Oh! That I might know him. Oh! That I might win the prize of the high calling! Is this the cry of your heart? We are told in Ephesians 4:13 that God has made provision for you and me to have the full knowledge of the Son of God. Does that excite you? Could it be that you have been apprehended by the Spirit to read this book?
