Excerpt from Transactions and Proceedings of the Royal Society of Victoria, Vol. 21: Issued June 30th, 1885 The Society is now approaching the termination of its twenty-sixth year, and it is pleasant to be able to tell you that it is in a prosperous condition and full of vitality. The ordinary income, added by the grant. Annually voted to us by the Parliament, now places us in a satisfactory position. The Society is not only solvent but it has a small reserve for current requirements. Our buildings are in good order and repair we haye added to our library accommodation, and had a large number of our valuable books bound, so as to be accessible to our members. The increase of the Society, and more especially the want of more space for our large meetings and gatherings like this, has already given rise to a wish for more accommodation in the shape of a large lecture or assembly room, and I' have no doubt the Council will take the matter cinto serious consideration before Our next session. Our last session was a busy one, as will be seen by reference to our twentieth volume, 1ssued in May last, and it is gratifying to note how promptly our secretaries have placed the volume for 1883 before our members. Excerpt from Transactions and of Proceedings of the Royal Society of Victoria, Vol. 7: January, 1865 to June, 1866 The Seventh Volume of the "Transactions of the Royal Society of Victoria," now issued to the Members, brings the Proceedings of the Society to the close of the first six months of 1866. It also embraces the Address of the President for this year, delivered on the 2nd July. It will be seen that many of the papers are of considerable importance, both in their value as contributions to the literature of science, and also from their relation to a young colony, of which so much has yet to be learned. The Council for the present year earnestly desire to continue the publication of the Transactions, by the issue of quarterly parts; but such a proceeding, involving as it does a large expenditure of money, together with a considerable amount of labour, can only be accomplished by the co-operation of the body of members. If those entrusted with the government of the Royal Society obtain that assistance, there is no reason to fear that the Papers will ever fall into the arrear from which they are now brought by the publication of the present volume.
