The two volumes of The Social Dimension present a comprehensive survey of the major developments in social psychology which took place in Europe during the very active 1970s and 1980s. They aim to capture the diversity and vitality of the discipline, stress the growing emphasis on fully social analyses of social psychological phenomena - hence 'the social dimension' - and to provide a valuable resource for researchers in the future. Although comprehensive in scope, the volumes are not written in the formal style of a reference handbook. Instead, the authors of the thirty-three chapters, drawn from more than a dozen mainly European countries and all experts in their own fields, were invited to present their own personal overviews of the issues in social psychology on which they were actively working. Both volumes are organized into three main Parts. Volume 1 is concerned with the social development of the child, interpersonal communication and relationships, and the social reality, group processes, and intergroup relations. This is a historical account that details Shackleton's expedition, written on the passage by ocean liner from New Zealand to Britain. The expedition was led by Ernest H. Shackleton, who set sail from Port Lyttelton, New Zealand, on January 1, 1908. Shackleton and a party of 14 men were dropped off at Cape Royds on Ross Island on February 3. The men were split into three groups. One would attempt to reach the South Pole, another would travel north to the South Magnetic Pole, and a third would explore the mountains west of McMurdo Sound. On October 29, Shackleton, three companions, and four ponies set out for the South Pole. Despite the great difficulty, they reached a latitude of 88°23' S. on January 9, 1909, further south than any prior expedition. They were compelled to turn back due to fierce blizzards and a shortage of supplies. They returned to the Nimrod and arrived in New Zealand safely. In addition to getting within 97.5 nautical miles (180.6 kilometers) of the pole, the expedition accomplished two other noteworthy feats. Douglas Mawson, Edgeworth David, and Alistair Mackay led the first ascent of Mount Erebus, Antarctica's most active volcano, on March 5-11, 1908, and the same three men reached the South Magnetic Pole on January 16, 1909.
The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1979, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from February 5 through December 19, 1979. After ministering in Central California and the San Francisco Bay Area in the middle of January, Brother Lee remained in Anaheim until the middle of April. He then made a short visit to Berkeley, California, after which he returned to Anaheim and ministered there until the end of the first week in May. On the weekend of May 11 through 13, Brother Lee ministered in Austin and Houston, Texas, after which he returned to Anaheim and remained there until the Memorial Day weekend. On that weekend Brother Lee gave a conference in New York City. After returning to Anaheim, he remained there until the end of September. On the last weekend in September Brother Lee traveled to Seattle, Washington, after which he returned to Anaheim and remained there until the first part of October. From that time until the first week in November, Brother Lee was in the Far East, where he visited Taipei, Taiwan; Quezon City and Manila, Philippines; Hong Kong; Singapore; and Tokyo, Japan. Brother Lee returned to Anaheim and remained there until the middle of November. Near the end of the month he ministered in Dallas, Texas. He returned to Anaheim and ministered there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into ten sections, as follows: 1. Twenty messages given in Anaheim, California, on February 5 through December 3. They were previously published in a book entitled Basic Lessons on Service and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Five messages given in Berkeley, California, on April 13 through 15. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Heart of the Bible and the Central Revelation of the Bible. 3. Five messages given in Anaheim, California, on June 25 through 27. These messages were combined into four chapters and are included in this volume under the title The Completion and Recovery of the Divine Revelation in the Word. 4. Two messages given in Anaheim, California, on July 13 and 27. They are included in this volume under the title Messages on Colossians. 5. Ten messages given in Anaheim, California, on August 15 through 26. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Genuine Ground of Oneness and are included in this volume under the same title. 6. Six messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, and in Hong Kong on October 15 through 30. These messages were previously published in Chinese in The Ministry of the Word in 1980. They were also previously published in English under the title Praying Unceasingly and Living in the Spirit and are included in this volume under the same title. 7. Nine messages given in Manila, Philippines, on October 22 through 26. These messages were previously published in Chinese in The Ministry of the Word from 1980 to 1981. They were also previously published in English under the title The Administration of the Church and the Perfecting of the Saints and are included in this volume under the same title. 8. "Voyage In Search Of La Perouse, Volume II" is the second volume of an 1800 book, providing an account of the 1791-1793 d'Entrecasteaux expedition to Australasia. The title refers to the search for La Pérouse, a prominent French naval officer and explorer who disappeared in the region in 1788, starting the mystery of the lost La Pérouse expedition. Although the d'Entrecasteaux expedition in search of La Pérouse wasn't successful, the description of the journey, an atlas, and illustrations of ethnographic and natural history subjects, collected on the way had a great scientific value, which made the book popular in France and abroad.
