The Problems of Viewing Performance challenges long-held assumptions by considering the ways in which knowledge is received by more than a single audience member, and breaks new ground by, counterintuitively, claiming that viewing performance is not a shared experience. Given that viewers come to each performance with differing amounts and types of knowledge, they each make different assumptions as to how the performance will unfold. Often modified by other viewers and often after the performance event, knowledge of performance is made more accurate by superimposing the experiences and justified beliefs of multiple viewers. These differences in the viewing experience make knowledge surrounding a performance intersubjective. Ultimately, this book explains the how and the why audience members have different viewing experiences. The Problems of Viewing Performance is important reading for theatre and performance students, scholars and practitioners, as it unpacks the dynamics of spectatorship and explores how audiences work.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the architecture and components of IBM InfoSphere® OptimTM Performance Manager Extended Edition. Intended for DBAs and those involved in systems performance, it provides information for installation, configuration, and deployment. InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager delivers a new paradigm used to monitor and manage database and database application performance issues. It describes product dashboards and reports and provides scenarios for how they can be used to identify, diagnose, prevent, and resolve database performance problems. IBM InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner facilitates query and query workload analysis and provides expert recommendations for improving query and query workload performance. Use InfoSphere Optim Performance Manager to identify slow running queries, top CPU consumers, or query workloads needing performance improvements and seamlessly transfer them to InfoSphere Optim Query Workload Tuner for analysis and recommendations. This is done using query formatting annotated with relevant statistics, access plan graphical or hierarchical views, and access plan analysis. It further provides recommendations for improving query structure, statistics collection, and indexes including generated command syntax and rationale for the recommendations.

Big Data has been much in the news in recent years, and the advantages conferred by the collection and analysis of large datasets in fields such as marketing, medicine and finance have led to claims that almost any real world problem could be solved if sufficient data were available. This is of course a very simplistic view, and the usefulness of collecting, processing and storing large datasets must always be seen in terms of the communication, processing and storage capabilities of the computing platforms available. This book presents papers from the International Research Workshop, Advanced High Performance Computing Systems, held in Cetraro, Italy, in July 2014. The papers selected for publication here discuss fundamental aspects of the definition of Big Data, as well as considerations from practice where complex datasets are collected, processed and stored. The concepts, problems, methodologies and solutions presented are of much more general applicability than may be suggested by the particular application areas considered. As a result the book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the processing of very large data sets, exascale computing and the emerging fields of data science
