DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Catalogue of the Collection of English Porcelain: In the Department of British and Mediaeval Antiquities and Ethnography of the British Museum It would not be possible to fix a limit of date in a collection of this class, but comparatively few of the pieces are less than a century old. DOWNLOAD EBOOKAbout 50% of Derby's output over a century was porcelain figures, and the factory rapidly eclipsed its English competitors. In this book the author analyzes the important 1770-1796 Factory List, identifying most of the figures involved and illustrating over 280 figures in his account of the 397 items in the list. A further 240 illustrations are devoted to Experimental, Dry-edge, Transitional, Pale Family and Patch-marked models from the 1750-70 period, and to soft-paste and bone-china models from the 1796-1848. All in all, nearly 750 models are described. The book concludes with two appendices giving biographical details for sculptors, modellers and craftsmen employed by the factory.
