"The Diamond Hitch uses, as its source material, a travel diary kept by my grandmother Phyllis and her best friend Anne, during their journey through the interior of British Columbia in 1951. The first half of the trip was taken in an 1927 MG Roadster the two friends had bought together. The women (both in their twenties) recount the story of their drive from Victoria, British Columbia to Red Deer, Alberta, whereupon they buy two horses, plus a pack-horse, to carry their supplies so that the two women might then return to Victoria on horseback--a trip that takes several months to complete. Their trip occurs in a time when, by convention, young women are unlikely to be vacationing on their own, let alone riding horses through mountain passes, and living off of their wits, if not the kindness of strangers. My manuscript highlights the poetic moments from this travel diary, often using dialogue and descriptions taken directly from the text, and reframing the travelogue as a poetic account. The poems in the collection vary in style, and they capture the eccentric people and unusual places encountered by the women. The work also seeks to tackle the underlying gender tensions faced by the characters during their travels."--

The inspiring novel about real life princess and equestrienne Haya of Jordan. Princess Haya loves her family more than anything--especially her mother who brings light and happiness into King Hussein's house. So when Queen Alia is killed in a tragic accident, Princess Haya is devastated. Knowing how unhappy she is and how much she loves horses, Haya’s father, King Hussein, gives her a special present: a foal of her very own. And this foal changes Princess Haya’s world completely. Set in an exotic locale where royalty is real, this story of a determined modern-day princess is both beautiful and awe-inspiring. Perfect for fans of Black Beauty, Misty of Chincoteague and anyone who wonders what it's like to be a real princess. Praise for THE PRINCESS AND THE FOAL: "Empowering and vigorous, this is a story sure to please princess fans, horse fans and, yes, even tomboys."--Kirkus Reviews "This real princess’s story is great and this book provides a positive and powerful story, especially for adolescent girl readers who choose to saddle up for the ride."--VOYA Magazine "Horse enthusiasts will devour Gregg’s engaging novel about Jordanian Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, inspired by the real-life princess who became an Olympic equestrian....Gregg’s greatest strength is in detailing the deep, sensual bond that can form between a human and a horse, but the sympathetic protagonist and a setting rarely seen in middle-grade fiction make this an inspiring read for any reader."--Publishers Weekly "In addition to being a great fit for fans of princess or horse stories, this would be a good choice for readers who enjoy stories of brave, scrappy girls who defy convention."--Booklist

"A soulful cello solo played by a beautiful young African-American woman sets 'The Gift Horse' in motion. As the mysterious cellist departs, the audience meets Ruth, a warm, attractive African-American woman with an easy laugh and a sharp sense of humor. While Ruth remembers her college days, the audience returns there with her, reliving times when life trajectories were set and bonds with friends and lovers were forged. Ruth takes the audience on her tumultuous journey from then to now, moving back and forth in time, while on another track, the mysterious cellist spools her story as well. At the conclusion these stories converge and resolve in a theatrically and thematically satisfying way. 'The Gift Horse' explores the complexities of human interaction in love, commitment and tragedy and celebrates the resilience of the soul"--Publisher's description, back cover.
