It is a companion to those two admirable works, and should be consulted and read with them; for, in fact, it would be simply impracticable, if it were not also beside the object, to assemble together in the follow ing sheets all the detached scraps and passages from books which shed an incidental light on places in the plays - that is, of course, the province of the Editors. I am only afraid that, by having admitted into the collection a few such items, either unknown or widely scattered, I have laid myself open to a charge of ih consistency and of want of a definite plan.
