In total, 20% percent of children experienced a change of residence during or at the conclusion of the initial substantiated maltreatment investigation, 12% in the form of a placement in a child welfare setting (Figure 7). [...] The AIS-2003 is the first province-wide study to examine the incidence of reported child maltreatment and the characteristics of the children and families investigated by child welfare services in Alberta. [...] The 1998 Canadian Incidence Study of Reported Child Abuse and Neglect was the first study in Canada to estimate the incidence of child abuse and neglect reported to, and investigated by, the Canadian child welfare system.
