John Welton, probably a Welshman, married Mary Upson and immigrated about 1657 from England to New England, and settled in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1679. Mary Welton (1793-1875) was a direct descendant in the fifth generation. She married Garret Conrad Van Wagnen in 1811, and is buried at Mantua Center, Ohio. Descendants and rela- tives lived in New England, New York, Ohio, Colorado and elsewhere. Ancestors lived in New England, England, Wales, France and elsewhere.
