DOWNLOAD EBOOKIntroduction to Electron Microscopy, Second Edition provides an introduction to the foundations of electron microscopy; an outline of some practical aspects of instrument operation; and discussion of the rationale of the methodology of biological specimen preparation. The book seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and operational aspects of the electron microscope. This edition consists of two parts. Part One deals with the history, basic theory, and operation of the electron microscope. Part Two discusses steps used in material preparation for electron microscope investigation such as fixation, embedding, and staining techniques. Biomedical researchers, molecular biologists, toxicologists, forensic investigators, and medical students will find this book a very useful reference.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKProgress in Liver Diseases, Volume II presents the progress made in the understanding of bilirubin metabolism and secretion. This book discusses the mechanisms underlying the transport of bilirubin in the liver, intestine, and kidney. Organized into 31 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of bilirubin metabolism and secretion from the point of view of transport within the liver cell. This text then discusses the relation of hematopoietic factors and coagulation mechanisms to hepatic function. Other chapters consider the etiology of viral hepatitis. This book discusses as well the appearance of genetic considerations in liver disease, as a reflection of progress in this discipline. The final chapter deals with the effects of closer relations with other nations and of migration from foreign lands and vice-versa, which have continued the interest in geographic pathology. This book is a valuable resource for pathologists, physicians, biochemists, physiologists, clinicians, and clinical researchers.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKUltrastructural Pathology of the Cell and Matrix: Third Edition Volume I present a comprehensive examination of the intracellular lesion. It discusses the analysis of pathological tissues using electron microscope. It addresses the experimental procedures made on the cellular level. Some of the topics covered in the book are the physiological analysis of the nucleus; nuclear matrix, interchromatin, and perichromatin granules; structure and function of centrioles; characteristics of mitochondria; Golgi complex in cell differentiation and neoplasia; and degranulation of rough endoplasmic reticulum. The intracytoplasmic and intranuclear annulate lamellae are fully covered. An in-depth account of the classification, history, and nomenclature of lysosomes are provided. The morphology and normal variations of melanosomes and anchoring fibrils are completely presented. A chapter is devoted to the endocytotic structures and cell processes. Another section focuses on the classification and nomenclature of fibrous components. The book can provide useful information to cytologists, scientists, students, and researchers.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe study of cell membranes began to attract increasing interest before the turn of the present century with the observations of 0 verton. Since that time many investigators have become interested in the broad problem of structure and function of the membrane and today we find ourselVes at a stage in which several branches of research, particularly physical chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology and pharmacology have come together, leading to the possibility of obtaining a better perspective of the overall problems. The purpose of this Symposium was to assemble in an orderly sequence representations of the knowledge of membranes achieved to date in the areas of the various disciplines. It was thought that to bring together many points of view on a problem should allow the conferees to see better what had been accomplished, what has been overlooked and what needs further development. It is to be hoped that efforts of this type have and will fulfill the desired purpose. This volume contains the majority of the papers contributed by the participants in the Symposium. In addition, it seemed logical to place at the beginning of each chapter at least one general survey of the subject which would help those who were less acquainted with the problem to derive the most benefit from their reading.
