DOWNLOAD EBOOKUsing data collected by the CLEO II detector at a center-of-mass energy on or near the [Upsilon](4S) resonance, we have determined the 90% confidence level upper limit [Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}e− X)/[Beta]({bar B} 2!([Lambda]{sub c} or {bar [Lambda]}{sub c}−)X)

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe predictions of the SU(3) flavor symmetry of the strong interactions for the weak decay of charmed baryons and B-mesons are detailed. It is hoped that comparison between these predictions and experiment will shed some light on the underlying dynamics involved in these weak decays. Although only a few decay modes of the charmed baryons and B-mesons have been studied experimentally it is hoped that the next generation of B-factories and even Z-decays at LEP will provide enough events to test these predictions.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKWe present the first evidence for B semileptonic decays into the charmed baryon [Lambda]{sub c} based on 420 fb−1 of data collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− storage rings. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. We measure the relative branching fraction [Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+ Xl−{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}})/[Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+/{bar {Lambda}}{sub c}−X) = (3.2 ± 0.9{sub stat.} ± 0.9{sub syst.})%. The significance of the signal including the systematic uncertainty is 4.9 standard deviations.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.
