"This book provides the principles and protocols for using the New Straight Wire (NSW) technique in orthodontic practice. With this technique, the planned movements of all individual teeth can be visualized and calculated prior to treatment, systematizing each step of treatment to idealize the outcome in terms of both function and esthetics"--

Beneath the surface of Aardenburg, a small town in the south-western part of the Netherlands, lie the remains of a Roman settlement that is presumed to have been named Rodanum. Extensive archaeological excavations from the late 1950s to the late 1980s revealed that the settlement was similar in size or even larger than the modern town. Its centre was formed by a large castellum-type fortification wall that enclosed several large stone buildings. The settlement was connected to the sea by a natural watercourse that defined its economic and logistical importance in the region. Rodanum's military function was to secure the regional coast against attacks by Germanic tribes via the North Sea, which occurred around AD 175. It continued to be inhabited until the late third century or the beginning of the fourth century, after which the settlement was deserted until the early Middle Ages. The first part of this study provides an overview of Aardenburg during the Roman period, in which its economic and military functions within the region are explored. In particular, the military and civilian character of the town is discussed. The second part contains a study of the metal objects and aims to present significant additional information. This part concludes with a critical review of the current state of research at this site.

Designed for medical professionals who may struggle with making the leap to conceptual understanding and applying physics, the eighth edition continues to build transferable problem-solving skills. It includes a set of features such as Analyzing-Multiple-Concept Problems, Check Your Understanding, Concepts & Calculations, and Concepts at a Glance. This helps the reader to first identify the physics concepts, then associate the appropriate mathematical equations, and finally to work out an algebraic solution.

In the newly revised Twelfth Edition of Physics: Volume 2, an accomplished team of physicists and educators delivers an accessible and rigorous approach to the skills students need to succeed in physics education. Readers will learn to understand foundational physics concepts, solve common physics problems, and see real-world applications of the included concepts to assist in retention and learning. The text includes Check Your Understanding questions, Math Skills boxes, multi-concept problems, and worked examples. The second volume of a two-volume set, Volume 2 explores ideas and concepts like the reflection, refraction, and wave-particle duality of light. Throughout, students knowledge is tested with concept and calculation problems and team exercises that focus on cooperation and learning.

The only text on this subject to detail numerical methods usually used in practice to calculate electromagnetic fields, and to integrate these methods with computer simulation. Thoroughly develops the basic mathematical methods which physicists use to describe fields (e.g., density, displacement, and electrical), demonstrating each with examples of applications to mechanical problems. Describe Maxwell's equations governing electric and magnetic fields and shows how these lead to physical phenomena such as electromagnetic waves, charged particle motion, electromagnetic induction, and other processes. Maxwell's equations are introduced in a discrete form--on a lattice--and are discussed in terms of the original definition of the polarization field rather than the more abstract ``dipole moment'' approach. Other topics covered include xerography, EMP, the magnetron oscillator, and boundary-value problems in the presence of superconductors, none of which are included in other texts at this level.

This comprehensive guide on the innovative Tip-Edge appliance introduces the concept of differential tooth movement into what is essentially a straight-wire bracket system. Prepared by a world-renowned expert, the second edition of this highly illustrated atlas explains the Tip-Edge technique from first principles and now includes important advances in the field, in particular the Plus bracket, an innovation which will greatly enhance the use of this rapidly emerging technique. Clearly written with liberal use of case studies, high quality photographs and line artwork, this atlas is ideal for all orthodontists who are interested in expanding their skills to include the Tip-Edge Plus technique. - Comprehensive illustrated textbook on the use of Tip-Edge by a world leader in its clinical development - More than 500 illustrations, many in full colour, present clinical, diagnostic and practical information in an easy-to-follow manner - Explains the demonstrably superior capabilities of Tip Edge and Plus over conventional bracket systems - Demonstrates the scope of the technique by numerous case histories which show the successful management of more difficult cases that often cannot be addressed by conventional means - Ideal for practitioners new to the appliance and those familiar with it who need to keep abreast of advances in the field - Includes all the new improvements and modifications in this rapidly developing technique, in particular, the Plus bracket - New clinical cases show the effectiveness of Tip-Edge Plus treatment in both American and British patients - Contains an expanded section on how to convert to this demonstrably superior technique from traditional straight wire practice
