The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1978, volume 2, contains messages given by Brother Witness Lee from May 13 through November 26. After returning to Anaheim, California, from Boston, Massachusetts, in the middle of May, Brother Lee remained in Anaheim through the first week in August. During that time he also ministered in San Diego and Fullerton, California. During the second week in August he traveled to San Jose, Sacramento, Berkeley, and San Francisco, California, and returned to Anaheim for a few days. After the third week in August Brother Lee ministered in Boston, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C.; New York City; Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida; Toronto, Canada; Cleveland, Ohio; and Chicago, Illinois, until the end of the third week in September. He then returned to Anaheim and remained there until the end of the first week in November, after which he visited Spokane and Moses Lake, Washington; Vancouver, Canada; Seattle, Washington; and Dallas, Texas. At the beginning of December he returned to Anaheim and, except for a one-day visit to Irvine, California, remained there until the end of the year. The contents of this volume are divided into eight sections, as follows: 1. Two messages given in Costa Mesa and Irvine, California, on May 15 and 18. These messages are included in this volume under the title Living Christ for the Lord's Recovery. 2. Six messages given in Anaheim, California, on May 13 through June 22. These messages were edited into eight chapters and are included in this volume under the title The Experience of Life and Oneness for the Lord's Recovery. 3. Four messages given in Anaheim, California, on June 27 and 28. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Testimony and Way of Life in the Lord's Recovery. 4. Forty-five messages given in Anaheim, San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, and Berkeley, California; Boston, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C.; New York City; Atlanta, Georgia; Miami, Florida; Spokane, Moses Lake, and Seattle, Washington; Vancouver, Canada; and Dallas, Texas, on July 9 through November 26. They were previously published as part of a three-volume set containing messages given by Brother Lee during the years 1978 and 1979. The messages in this volume were previously published in a forty-one-chapter book entitled Life Messages, volume 1, and are included here under the same title. The other two volumes of the three-volume set were previously published as Life Messages, volume 2, and Truth Messages. They are contained, respectively, in The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1979, volume 1, and The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1978, volume 3. 5. A message given in San Francisco, California, on August 15. This message is included in this volume under the title Contacting Christ by Receiving the Word and Touching the Spirit in Order to Experience Christ's Death and Resurrection. 6. Three messages given in Anaheim, California, on July 27, August 17, and November 2. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Present Need in the Lord's Recovery. 7. Eight messages given in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 23 through 28. They were previously published in a book entitled Crucial Principles for the Christian Life and the Church Life and are included in this volume under the same title.
The Collected Works of Witness Lee, 1960, volume 2, contains messages given and articles and personal notes written by Brother Witness Lee in April through December 1960. Historical information concerning Brother Lee's travels and the content of his ministry in 1960 can be found in the general preface that appears at the beginning of volume 1 in this set. The contents of this volume are divided into ten sections, as follows: 1. Nine messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in April through August. Chapters 1 through 5 contain messages given in July and August, and chapters 8 and 9 contain messages given on April 1 and 2. The dates of the messages that constitute chapters 6 and 7 are unknown. All nine messages were previously published in a book entitled The Sufficiency, Pursuit, and Learning of the Lord's Serving Ones and are included in this volume under the same title. 2. Four messages given in a training for young people in Taipei, Taiwan, in April. These messages are included in this volume under the title God's Plan and Christ's Redemption. 3. Three sets of personal notes written in 1960, probably beginning on April 26. These notes are included in this volume under the title Witness Lee's Personal Notes. 4. Fifteen messages given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1960; the exact dates are unknown. These messages were previously published in a book entitled The Elders' Management of the Church and are included in this volume under the same title. 5. A message given in Taipei, Taiwan, probably after the messages contained in the previous section on the elders' management of the church. This message is included in this volume under the title Concerning the Arrangement of Church Meetings. 6. A message given in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1960. This message was originally published in the periodical The Ministry of the Word in September. It is included in this volume under the title Balancing the Church Service and the Goals of the Church Service. 7. Five messages given in Taipei, Taiwan. These messages were originally published in the periodical The Ministry of the Word in October 1960 through January 1961. They were previously published in a book entitled The Law of Revival and are included in this volume under the same title. 8. Ten messages given in New York City on October 14 through November 20. These messages are included in this volume under the title The Nature and Building Up of the Church. 9. Four messages given in New York City on November 24 through 27. These messages are included in this volume under the title Practicing the Building Up of the Church on the Proper Ground. 10. A letter and two sets of questions and answers given in Los Angeles, California, on December 5 through 7. This section is included in this volume under the title Fellowship in Los Angeles concerning the Ground of the Church.

This book presents research in three new areas: Sunday liturgies, homilies, and pastoral concepts. First it presents to the readers the major Latin American document, “Disciples and Missionaries of Jesus-Christ,” which sets the course of the Church in Latin America for the next decade. Next I present the findings about the Sunday liturgies in 100 churches, 50 in Guatemala and 50 the U.S. The following chapter analyzes 100 Sunday homilies in comparison to lay talks, homilies by Fr. Robert Barron, and evangelical sermons. In one more chapter I discuss basic concepts for pastoral research. Chapter 6 discusses the consequences of papal centralization for church renewal. The last chapter outlines ten basic paths of renewal. What is new in this book is the research on Sunday liturgies, homilies, and pastoral concepts.
