A special issue of South Australian geographical journal commissioned by the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia to recognise the centenary of the tertiary teaching of geography in South Australia. From tenuous beginnings at the University of Adelaide in 1904, it has grown to a large and important discipline taught in various forms at South Australian tertiary institutions, including related studies in GIS, planning, population studies and environmental management. Indicates the significant role of geography in the community from the beginning of the Society in 1885, which focussed on exploration and the extension of geographical knowledge in South Australia and the Northern Territory.
