DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Hymns of Zion, With Appropriate Music: Designed as an Aid to Devotion in Families, Social Circles, and Meetings for Public Worship Many persons of piety and good taste in literature, have lamented the prosaic and inelegant style of most of the hymns and spiritual songs in general use. Watts, Rippon, the Wesleys, and other devout men, have undoubted claims to our grateful regard for their lyrical compositions - but we should not so reverence their labors as to forego the advantages of improvement. DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Songs of Zion: Supplement to the Hymn-Book of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South IN compiling the Hymn-book of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, a number of hymns were excluded which would have been admitted, had there been room. Many of these are admirable productions, and are well adapted to do good serv ice for the Church. Having been repeatedly re quested to compile a volume of such pious effu sions, we have, with no small labor, prepared such a collection. It is hoped it may not be considered unworthy of the rank assigned it, as a Supplement to our Connectional Hymn-book, which has been pronounced, by competent judges, superior to any compilation extant. As that work has a sufficient fullness and variety, especially for all occasions of public worship, it must not be superseded by the present volume, which is assigned a subordinate rank. Of course, none of the hymns of the former volume are to be found in this. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
