DOWNLOAD EBOOKA scrapbook of folded newspaper clippings, organized chronologically, comprising articles and advertisements for the San Francisco Daily News "Baby Show" and "Baby Revue". The scrapbook many have been kept by a staff member at the newspaper, according to brief annotations about filing names of contestants. The Baby Show was a health fair in the guise of a beauty contest at the California Food and Household Exposition, held at the San Francisco Auditorium from October 16-24 and co-sponsored by the newspaper, with applicant babies, aged three months to five years, named and pictured in the newspaper. "The show is to be known as the Child Welfare Exhibit, and 40 or more doctors, Stanford medical students and trained nurses will participate in the examinations preceding the beauty selections" (September 21). "The Daily News is conducting this show ... on the theory that there isn't an industry in the state that can compete with that of rearing babies eugenically and happily. ... The City Health Department is co-operating with The Daily News and the Exposition in conducting health examinations of babies for their mothers" (September 24). The Baby Revue was started in the pages of the newspaper immediately after the close of the Exposition; it offered motion picture screen tests of babies to applicants who recruited three new subscribers to the newspaper. At the close of the revue, 125 "most beautiful and most charming" "Honor Babies" received one of five categories of prizes. Seventy pages in the scrapbook album each contain from one to three tipped-on folded clippings.
