Nonlinearities exist in all process control systems. The use of linear control techniques is valid only in a narrow region of operation. Nonlinear control is central to future industrial development. In this book, multivariable nonlinear control techniques based on differential geometry are considered in a pragmatic manner. The book provides a simplified and systematic approach to geometric nonlinear control theory. A case study of an industrial evaporator is used as an example throughout the entire book. Various other examples are also used throughout the text to illustrate the theory. The book successfully demonstrates the superiority and simplicity of the class of controllers studied through simulations and actual plant implementations. The simulations were done using the symbolic computation package MAPLE. Discussions are given on the application of symbolic computation in process engineering. This book is aimed at industrial practitioners and postgraduates in engineering, and will be particularly valuable to practicing engineers who find the theory books on control somewhat heavy going. The insights provided in the book will encourage more industrial implementations of nonlinear controllers, and thereby help to bridge the widening gap between control theory and industrial practice.

The six volumes LNCS 11619-11624 constitute the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2019, held in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in July 2019. The 64 full papers, 10 short papers and 259 workshop papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected form numerous submissions. The 64 full papers are organized in the following five general tracks: computational methods, algorithms and scientific applications; high performance computing and networks; geometric modeling, graphics and visualization; advanced and emerging applications; and information systems and technologies. The 259 workshop papers were presented at 33 workshops in various areas of computational sciences, ranging from computational science technologies to specific areas of computational sciences, such as software engineering, security, artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.

This Proceedings contains papers presented at the sixth IFAC Symposium on Dynamics and Control of Chemical Processes (DYCOPS 2001), which was held on Jejudo Island, Korea, on June 4-6, 2001. The triennial DYCOPS symposium is one of IFAC's highest-profile regular events, and has established an enviable reputation for quality. The reputation and coverage of DYCOPS ensures that these events always provide a comprehensive showcase of the best and latest research into all aspects of process control. DYCOPS-6 had as its theme "Bridging Engineering with Science," and explored how the process control community should react to wider developments in chemical engineering research, where molecular-level phenomena and product design as related to materials and biotechnology are becoming increasingly important. Featuring papers by many of the world's leading experts in process control, the Proceedings of DYCOPS-6 form an indispensable resource for process control engineers and for chemical engineers seeking to understand the latest developments in chemical process control. Altogether over 100 papers are presented, on topics such as batch process control, model predictive control, control of distillation columns, fault detection, and many others.

The IFAC Conference on Control of Industrial Systems (CIS'97) was organized by the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs. It was devoted to 'Control for the Future of the Youth' and linked the control science with the control engineering in the framework of industrial systems control. The wide diversity of topics, high quality, theoretical impact and applications of contributed results acknowledged the following: . Control, which is mainly automatic today, is the brain of every industrial system . Industrial systems automatic control necessitates a permanent interaction between systems and control science, and control engineering . Automatics is a self-contained and complete scientific and engineering discipline on automatic control, and as such, it has been interacting with almost all other scientific, engineering and social areas . Automatic control implies new job forms and qualifications, thus representing the area of the widely growing research and professional possibilities for pacific contributions to the well-being of humanity . Automatics is one of the most perspective disciplines open to young engineers and scientists.
