DOWNLOAD EBOOKWhen China issued its paper on how the next Chief Executive of Hong Kong would be selected they decided what they thought was best for Hong Kong since its return and incorporation into China. However, the reaction to China's decision was probably not expected nor were the events that followed. With the protests the Hong Kong government had to react and when Occupy Central actually took place their reaction had to be stronger. This book deals with the government reactions to the protests. It shows various government public announcements, of the events, as they unfolded as they tried to find an end to the protests.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe protests continued and both sides settled into a siege mentality and refused to compromise. The protests ended not with an agreement, nor a truce, but with the court that ordered the streets be cleared. Later, with the Legislative Council's vote about Beijing's election proposal a return to the status quo was enforced but did nothing for the lingering distrust between both sides. This book deals with the government reactions to those protests. It shows the various government public announcements, court injunctions and US reports which were strongly criticized by the Hong Kong government. Also included are the events of the Mong Kok riot during the 2016 Lunar New Year.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK"The synthesis describes the experience of several foreign countries that have used road pricing, or congestion pricing, as a means to manage congestion. The synthesis contains dicussions of the policy, equity, and implementation issues associated with congestion pricing. Several of the schemes described were planned or implemented as methods to increase roadway funding rather than for congestion management, but have had the effect of changing travel patterns."--Avant-propos.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book focuses on the relationship between urban land redevelopment and traffic systems and discusses the related research. Consisting of three main parts, the first analyzes the interaction between land redevelopment and traffic congestion as well as the mechanisms and causes of traffic congestion. The second part presents strategies for the prevention and control of traffic congestion under urban land redevelopment, proposing a two-stage evaluation system of traffic congestion pre-inspection and traffic impact analysis in the planning and implementation stages of land redevelopment. Lastly, the third section includes an application case analysis of the proposed traffic congestion management strategy.

DOWNLOAD EBOOK. . . this book is an interesting collection of papers on the topic of road congestion pricing. . . The reader should find this collection to be both interesting and informative, but also quite thought-provoking. . . The papers also provide some very useful information about projects that have not worked or have not been implemented for various reasons and lessons that can be learnt from failures to implement and failures of pricing schemes. Peter R. Stopher, International Planning Studies In February 2003, the London Congestion Charging Scheme was introduced and in 2006 a similar policy was introduced in Stockholm. In both cases automobile traffic entering the cordon declined by about 20 percent. This book evaluates these and other similar programs exploring their implications for the United States. While there is increasing interest in road pricing in the US in many individual states, the motivation is often highway financing rather than congestion relief. The contributors argue that the prospects for extensive implementation in the US remain uncertain. Nevertheless, this book illustrates that the European experience suggests political feasibility is much less of a hurdle than was once considered and that congestion pricing would have a significant impact in reducing traffic as it did in Europe. This study s value lies in the fact that it examines road pricing in the real world and not simply from a theoretical viewpoint. As a comparative study it will appeal to both policymakers and academics in transportation economics and planning, urban economics, planning and economic geography.
