Excerpt from Revival Sermons Most of us have been brought to God and into the church through the instrumentality of the revival. Even where this is not the case we have been refreshed, renewed and in various ways benefitted by genuine revivals of religion. Some historians say that English society was saved by the Wesleyan Revival of last century. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Christ and His Friends: A Series of Revival Sermons The sermons in this volume were delivered in Hanson Place M. E. Church, Brooklyn, N. Y., during the month of January, 1895, in a series of revival meetings. It will be noted that the texts and themes are all selected from St. John's Gospel. The themes were selected some months prior to the delivery of the discourses, and such time as could be spared from the regular work of my ministry was devoted to the work of outline, Scriptural study, and the gathering of illustrative material from all sources open to me. When the time arrived, after a few hours' study during the morning of the day in which the sermon was to be delivered, it was first dictated to a stenographer, though it was afterward in the evening preached without notes. The entire thirty-one sermons were thus at last forged and delivered during that earnest campaign. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Soul Saving: Revival Sermons The supreme need of the Church today is soul saving. Some think the greatest need is a pipe-organ a better choir; a better building or a better preacher, but the greatest need is a passion to save 501115. Only one-fourth Of our population are professed Christians. Think of the men and women every day going down to ruin! Think of the millions in the gall of bitterness and the bonds of iniquity! Think of the terrible evils of intemperance! Think of the dishonesty in business! Think of the deceit in society! Think Of the wicked ness in high places! Think Of the dogmas and tradi tions of men that have been substituted for the word Of God! Think of the indifference and negligence on the part Of the professed followers of Christ! Think of the majority of the inhabitants of the world on the broad road to destruction who must be turned back to God back from the powers of darkness to the light of heaven; back from the error of their ways to Christ's way.
